The Hand That Rocks The Cradle remake coming this October
Thirty-three years after the original graced the screen, THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE is back with a brand new star cast and reimagined thrills.
The original, which released in 1992, was an instant hit considering it came out at a time when psycho obsession thrillers were all the rage. The movie is still known for its tension-laced premise and manipulative protagonist.
The story was about a woman named Peyton who infiltrates the home of a couple under the guise of a nanny. She wants revenge against the couple, especially Claire whom she blames for the suicide of her husband Dr Victor Mott.
Dr Victor Mott had been inappropriate with Claire, which led her to file a complaint against him, which led to more women coming forward to accuse the doctor of misbehavior.
Peyton, Mrs Mott, was pregnant at that time and miscarried, which consequently led to a hysterectomy.
So off she goes, getting hired by Claire, who doesn’t conduct a detailed background check. Peyton starts to take over Claire’s life by turning her children against her, getting her gardener fired because he began to suspect Peyton’s motives, and then ultimately trying to seduce Claire’s husband, Michael.
Fortunately, Peyton doesn’t get away with i,t and in a heart-racing climax, Claire manages to push Peyton out the window.
In the trailer for the remake, we see Maika Monroe play Polly Murphy, not Peyton. She drives to the house, and Claire Morales has easily accepted her into her home as her nanny.
Within a few moments, we see Polly already bonding with the family, the children, and flirting with the husband, Miguel.
We then see that Polly clearly is a bit unhinged when we see her slapping herself.
Claire begins to get uncomfortable with Polly wearing her clothes and being nonchalant about it. Her friend asks how much she knows about her new hire apart from what she has already told her.
Polly is seen snooping in Claire’s room at night, turning her daughter against her, and for some reason gives off the vibes that she may not be seducing Miguel, but Claire?
There’s a fire, glass shattering, and a full-on fight scene between Claire and Polly.
The movie may have a borrowed theme, and it doesn’t seem like anything new is being added to the script, but Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead are clearly giving all they have in their respective roles.
It is a good enough reason to watch this movie.
Directed by Michelle Garza Cervera and written by Micah Bloomberg, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (2025) stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Maika Monroe, Raúl Castillo, Martin Starr, Mileiah Vega, and Riki Lindhome.
THE HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE will release on October 22nd on Hulu.
