Yellowjackets--Season Two Spoilers!
Plot: The girls are still stranded in the middle of nowhere and dealing with starvation. The adult versions find themselves targeted by their past and secrets.
The second season of Yellowjackets did not disappoint and continues to show us the perils the high school girls face in the wilderness.
The show is a nostalgic reminder of the essays we used to write in school about surviving in the middle of nowhere. What would you do if you were stranded? How would you survive?
Yellowjackets answers those questions but gives a creepy supernatural twist.
In the last season, we saw the loss of lives, especially that of Jackie, who was Shauna's best friend. After an argument, she is sent outside as punishment, but during the night, she freezes to death.
In the present, Shauna has murdered Adam after learning he was in cahoots with her husband Jeff to blackmail the Yellowjackets regarding their secrets.
Shauna's friends help her, too. Natalie is on the verge of killing herself after Travis' death, and Lottie's involvement is mentioned.
In the new season, we see the adult versions of Lottie and Van. So these two survive as well. We still haven't seen the coach, so let's see who else perishes in Season 3 of Yellowjackets, which released on 14th February.
YELLOWJACKETS SEASON 2 Plot
In the new season, Shauna is still guilt-ridden about Jackie's death and so keeps her frozen body in the shed. She hallucinates talking to her, applies makeup, and then accidentally rips out her ear, which she later consumes.
Taissa is not in favour of this, but Lottie, who has been voted the leader of the group, thinks it will help Shauna heal.
In the present, Taissa can't believe she beheaded her dog and made a hidden altar. She is concerned about her other self showing up when she is sleeping. Her wife Simone has left the house with their son Sammy.
Natalie was trying to off herself when she is helped by people in purple attire who brought her to a wellness retreat run by Lottie.
Natalie creates a ruckus, is restrained, and stabs the staff there, Lisa, who was only trying to help her eat.
Shauna's daughter Callie figures something is going on with Adam, whom her mother was having an affair with. She meets a man called Matt at the bar, who is actually a detective working with Kevyn on Adam's missing person case. She reveals her mother's affair, and Matt reports it to Kevyn. Despite his warnings, Matt is eager to pursue Shauna and Adam's connection.
Misty is a caretaker who is also part of an online citizen detective group. The online community is abuzz with the disappearance of Adam, and Misty tries to send them down the wrong trail. However, one of the users keeps going after the case.
When Misty can't get a hold of Natalie, she decides to conduct an investigation on her own.
Back in the past, Taissa comes across Jackie's decorated body and decides to put an end to Shauna's obsession with it. She suggests they bury the body, but since everything is frozen, it is decided that Jackie will be cremated.
Natalie isn't too happy with her lack of success at obtaining food for the others. When the other girls say that Lottie managed to do a much better job with killing the bear last season, Natalie decides on a competition.
Lottie is sent without any weapons because there is only one gun, and Natalie takes it. Yet Lottie has a knife. Throughout it all, Lottie appears reluctant to be a part of all this, and she definitely doesn't look happy to be part of this competition.
While Lottie is sidetracked, Natalie finds a frozen moose in the lake. The others hurry over to help her, but the rope breaks, and the moose sinks to the bottom.
Lottie is eventually found, half-frozen. Natalie takes care of her, and they both resume their friendship.
Travis misses his brother Javi, who has still not been found. Natalie tries to get him to give up the search by tearing off a cloth, putting her blood on it, and hanging it on a tree. But Travis still believes he is out there and suffers a panic attack.
Lottie helps him calm down through a ritual. Later, when Natalie and Travis are making out, he keeps hallucinating about Lottie.
Van and Taissa sleep in the attic because Taissa has developed a sleep disorder that makes her get up in the middle of the night and behave erratically. Van tied her down, but Taissa still managed to free herself and walk out into the woods towards the symbol carved on the tree.
After Jackie's body is cremated, during the night, snow falls on it and cooks the body perfectly. Starving, the girls feed on their friend. The coach does not join in.
Since then, he has begun to have hallucinations about his boyfriend Paul and thinks about what if he had accepted his offer to move in with him rather than get on the plane.
Depressed, he decides to jump off the cliff, but Misty begs him not to.
Unknown to him, Misty has killed Crystal because she accidentally tells her that she destroyed the emergency transmitter that could have saved them all. Crystal is sickened by Misty's reveal and so just before she can tell anyone, Misty pushes her down a cliff.
Back in the present, Misty meets with the online detective Walter, who is a millionaire because of the money he received in an accident. He tries to help Misty find Natalie, who is coping in her new surroundings with Lottie.
Walter interrogates Randy, takes Misty on a road trip, and bonds with her.
Natalie learns to let go of her anger when Lottie confesses she was there when Travis died and held herself responsible when she couldn't save him.
Lottie is also dealing with her own troubles as she feels there is a reason why the yellowjackets are coming to her. She also sees the Queen card with the eyes crossed out.
As it turns out, that is related to the past.
Javi is found but he is mute. He makes strange drawings that leads the Coach to a tree where there is shelter.
Shauna eventually has her baby but wants Lottie to stay away because she keeps saying the baby is a boy and keeps wanting to touch her belly.
Shauna's baby initially doesn't bond with her, but when she talks to him about them being against the world, the baby finally latches.
That night, Shauna wakes up to find her baby missing. She goes downstairs to find the others feeding on it.
She wakes up. It's all a dream. Her baby never survived. She now has to bury her baby.
Shauna has so much anger within her that Lottie tells her to take it out on her. Shauna uses Lottie like a punching bag, leaving her almost half dead.
Now, without a leader, the others decide that the only way to survive this is to eat another of them.
So they use playing cards and whoever draws the queen with scratched eyes, has to be killed.
Natalie is chosen and Shauna has a knife at her throat. Travis stops her and tells Natalie to run.
Natalie tries to run for her life and falls only to be helped by Javi who tries to take her to his hiding spot in the tree. However, Javi falls through the ice and Natalie and the others try to help him only to figure later that the wilderness has chosen its sacrifice. They let Javi die and then pull him out.
Travis is devastated when he sees his brother but understands what needs to be done. Shauna begins to cut Javi into pieces. The Coach sees it and goes to Natalie, telling her that she is better than all of this and that they need to leave.
Natalie tells him that she is worse because she let Javi die and that he should be the one to go as far away from them as possible.
In the present, Misty has a fight with Walter regarding his interference in her life. Natalie doesn't want to see her friends anymore and sends Misty away when she tracks her down.
Taissa purposely crashes the car when Simone scolds her for damaging their family. Taissa is fine but Simone is seriously injured.
Taissa is dealing with her other self issues and ends up at Van's video store. Van tries to help Taissa but her other self makes a move on her. Eventually, they learn about Lottie's wellness centre and head there.
Callie learns that Matt is using her for information and tries to throw him off the trail of her mother by stating that Shauna is having an affair with Randy.
The plan doesn't go well and Matt finds lotion instead of bodily fluids in the waste basket.
Jeff finds out that his daughter knows everything and the three head over to the police station. Callie's plan to frame Matt for targeting a minor doesn't work. Jeff thinks Shauna needs help and needs to go to Lottie's wellness Centre.
Misty voluntarily enters the centre and gives up her phone just as Walter texts her.
Lottie is stunned to find a reunion of sorts as Taissa, Vanessa, Misty, Natalie, and Shauna come to her centre.
She talks to her therapist about receiving signs from the wilderness. She isn't too happy that her therapist has changed.
Turns out, she has been hallucinating her therapist all along.
The others rekindle their friendship, but Jeff calls Shauna about Adam's body being found.
Her friends learn Shauna's secret as well as Jeff's involvement in the murder.
Jeff and Callie head to Lottie's to get Shauna back and run away. Kevyn and Matt head over there as well.
Lottie gathers her friends and tells her the wilderness requires a sacrifice. They all play along, worried about Lottie's mental health.
Van calls off the mental health institution because she doesn't think it will help Lottie. It is also revealed that Van is dying of cancer.
On the night of the hunt, Natalie sends Lisa away. The entire retreat is supposed to be vacant but is not since Jeff, Callie, Matt and Kevyn are roaming around.
Walter manages to break in too since he wants to help Misty. He is the one who gives Kevyn poison in tea while pretending to be friendly.
Later, he blackmails Matt about framing him for Adam's murder if he pursues the investigation and goes after Shauna. Matt gives in.
The hunt begins and Shauna receives the Queen card. Callie comes in to save her. Things get chaotic when Lisa turns up, wondering what is going on. She tries to shoot to help Lottie when Natalie comes in front and is killed.
Natalie finds herself once again on the plane and sees younger versions of her and Lottie who help her let go.
Back in the past, Lottie reveals that she never wanted to be the leader and chooses Natalie to be one since even though they all tried to kill her, the wilderness chose to save her.
The coach is unhappy seeing that the girls are becoming more and more unhinged. Since he can't start a fire by rubbing two rocks, he chooses to steal the girls' matches and then comes upon an idea.
The girls wake up in the middle of the night to find the house burning.
They all manage to escape in time but are now without shelter.
The season ends.
My Thoughts About This Season
Yellowjackets Season 2 had a crazy, exciting season, and we get to see just how far they would go to survive.
It was sad to see the grown-up Natalie go but let's see where her story actually goes. The wilderness had chosen her for a reason after all.
Since we don't see a mature version of the Coach, is he going to be the next meal?
Will Taissa manage to control her primal urges while she is sleeping?
Season 3 has all your answers.
