Sam Raimi's Send Help coming to theatres in January
If you were stuck on an island, who would you be with? The age-old question resurfaces and is turned into, would you believe it, a horror movie.
While people generally reply to this question using celebrity names or best friends, imagine being stuck on an island with someone you hate. And if that person you hate also turns out to be your boss!
Filmmaker Sam Raimi is back with another horror movie called SEND HELP. And just like his previous movies, it is laced with dark humor undertones.
In the trailer, we see Rachel McAdams play Linda, who apparently handles “numbers” in a company. Her boss, Bradley, played by Dylan O’Brien, is obnoxious and manipulative. When he calls Linda to his office one day, he dismisses her contributions to the company and then insults her for having a noxious odor.
Linda is given one chance to prove her worth in the upcoming Bangkok merger. It is implied that if she doesn’t perform well, she could be let go.
We see Linda getting into her car and venting, but in the next scene, she is seen on the plane with Bradley, who is gloating about not being too concerned about airplane safety rules and seat belts.
There is a plane crash right after, and Linda washed up ashore on a secluded island. But she isn’t the only survivor. She spots Bradley on the beach and notices his injured leg.
Linda is a survivalist and gets to work on building a makeshift shelter, bandaging up Bradley’s leg, and hunting for food.
One would think that Bradley would be grateful for what Linda has done for him. Instead, when he wakes up, he complains about Linda not creating a big enough fire for a distress signal.
As he begins to berate her, Linda stands up for herself and reminds him that they aren’t in the office anymore. And she is the boss now.
Linda builds, cooks, and hunts…a boar! Things get twisted pretty soon when we see Bradley fearing for his life. He possibly believes that Linda is unhinged, considering she seems more intent on staying on the island than getting out of here.
There’s blood and screaming, and Linda threatening Bradley with a knife.
Described as Misery meets Cast Away, the movie clearly checks all the boxes of dark comedy horror.
Is Linda going to be the new Annie Wilkes? Bradley is no Paul Sheldon, though, and based on what we see so far, Linda is not his number one fan.
This gripping psychological thriller is directed by Sam Raimi and written by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon. Starring Rachel McAdams as Linda Liddle and Dylan O'Brien as Bradley Preston, the film also features Dennis Haysbert, Chris Pang, and Emma Raver-Lampman.
SEND HELP will release on January 30th, 2026.
