Warnings (2019)-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After moving into a new house, Leah dreams about a little girl and believes she is being warned about being in danger.

There is something interesting about Warnings. No, it’s not the caricaturist acting. Seriously, there is one character who keeps trying to be “relevant” using “girl” and “boy” in every one of her dialogues.
Is that why the villain goes for the throat when attacking her? You would think so.

Apart from the lack of acting skills displayed by the actors, the movie did have some things working for it. There was definitely some pace, a chilly atmosphere and decent direction of a kind of cliched story.

At first glance, Warnings seems different. Yes, a couple moves into a new house and you expect it to be haunted. Then you find out that some people in the area have disappeared. And dead animals have been found. And only the blood of the former occupants has been found. Oh, and there was a cult nearby many years ago.

Did I forget anything? Oh yes, one of the cult members, a little boy, ran away.

On top of it all (keep taking notes), one of the characters keeps having visions and nightmares. She pretty much sees the grotesque history come alive in her dreams and the ghosts have taken a liking to her.

Anything left? Yes. The monster is either wearing a mask or has weird skin. He carries around a pitchfork and uh oh, he’s a cannibal.

That’s the problem with Warnings. It borrows themes from too many horror movies, most notably Friday the 13th and Wrong Turn.

On top of it all, there’s the unnecessary couple drama. Why do you care, you’ll ask yourself.
You know chances are pretty good only the girl with the intuition is going to survive because the ghosts only help her. You have the sixth sense, you’ll be aided by the ghosts.

In spite of the obvious borrowed themes, the story knits them well and you don’t actually get bored.

WARNINGS Movie Plot

The story begins with Marcus cajoling his fiancée Grace. She’s miffed with him because he bought a house in the auction without telling her. They get home and she’s happy because the house is huge and partially furnished.

Meanwhile, three friends are making their way to the house and get lost. Dominic is peeved that there is hardly any signal for him to use social media. Philip hopes his friend Marcus likes his partner Dominic.
Leah is in the backseat, waking up to give them the right directions because she has a “woman’s intuition”.

They all meet up in the house and some time is spent chattering, drinking and eating. Some ghosts are roaming in the background but they aren’t important yet.

At night, Leah has a dream about a girl painting weird symbols and then crawling backwards at her.

Later the next day, she finds a carton of photos and yup, the girl in the dream is in the photo.

Philip and Dominic get into a fight and Dominic walks out in the dark and manages to catch a signal to post a video of him online. There’s something behind him and he screams.

The next morning the group of friends is looking for Dominic and encounter a security guard patrolling who tells them that everyone moved away and the former residents of the house disappeared, blah blah.

The whole scene is forced and doesn’t make sense because he sees a group of people and doesn’t think that they must be living in that house. Didn’t he just say everyone just moved out?

Clearly, they must be living in the only house in the vicinity.

WARNINGS Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Dominic isn’t found and now Grace decides she wants to leave immediately. Philip wants to attempt looking for Dominic again and leaves alone.

Rule number 1 in a horror movie, if in danger and you are in a group, do not separate. Stay together and attack the psycho killer or just run. Again, together.

The ending is rushed because in a matter of minutes the friends and the security officer are killed except for Leah. The ghosts apparently only liked her enough to help her. Or she did have some sixth sense. Since she could sense the ghosts, the ghosts could help only her.

She manages to stab the monster with a pitchfork. Who is the monster? The little boy who ran away from the cult before the police arrived. He survived on eating his victims hence the crazy strength.

Leah takes the security guard’s car and drives away. The monster meanwhile wakes up but is quickly attacked by the ghosts of his latest victims.

What of the thirty people who had gone missing and supposedly killed by the cannibal? Their souls found peace.

Had the ending been more thought out, and less rushed, the movie could have been a lot better.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
