Dark Horror Tales

  The scene is set, but you may not want to be a part of it. In fact, you will definitely not want to be part of the scene in this next horror book of the week.  Titled THE FINAL SCENE, this suspenseful novel is written by Steph Nelson.  The novel was published by Ticking Clock Press in February 2024 and is 300 pages long.  You can find the book on the bestsellers list for Murder Thrillers and Serial Killer Thrillers. The book currently has a rating for four stars and the reviews are mainly positive. Readers who bought this book found it to be gripping and did not see the twist coming.  Some readers thought that given the theme of the book, there was no need to include a romance between two characters.   The trap is set. But will it work? M. Night Shyamalan writes and directs the next horror feature of this year. After serving as producer to his daughter’s directorial debut THE WATCHERS, he will also produce this year’s surprise entry in the horror line-up. 

  One of the critically acclaimed movies from 2022 was THE MENU . Starring Ralph Fiennes and Anya Taylor-Joy, this horror-comedy will not only shock but also entertain. Another plus side is that you get to see some interesting dishes but as the movie progresses, you will not find them delicious, but just a little dangerous. Here are some of the enjoyable moments from the movie.

  One Night. One House. One Dead Body.  This tagline is sure to intrigue you and check out this week’s horror book MIDNIGHT ON BEACON STREET.   If you like suspenseful thrillers, you will want to dive right into this novel written by Emily Ruth Verona.

  Do not go out after dark. Especially in the woods.  M.Night Shyamalan’s newest feature is here but this time he is only producing. Helming THE WATCHERS is his daughter Ishana Shyamalan.  The Watchers is based on the 2021 novel of the same name, and written by A.M. Shine.  The novel was about a young woman called Mina, whose car breaks down on her way to deliver a parrot. Since she is in the woods, a woman called Madeline, pulls her inside a cabin. Inside, she finds three more strangers, and is warned not to go out in the dark as there are creatures outside that could kill them.  Eventually Mina, along with the others find out that them being in a cabin is a way for them and a Professor to safely study the creatures outside that are called the Watchers.  The Professor helps them escape, and after a few casualties, Mina finds her way to the Professor’s office where she is told to destroy his study. Over there, she finds out that Madeline is his wife although she supposedly died years

  M.Night Shyamalan has done it again. He has once again made a movie that will make you sit at the edge of your seat while the twist that usually reveals itself toward the end, unwinds. The movie was based on Paul Tremblay’s novel THE CABIN AT THE END OF THE WORLD and of course, the movie ending differs from the novel.

  This week's Horror Book Pick is The Ghost is Clear: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (A Series of Midlife Curses) by A.A. Tomes. Published in 2021, the novel has been positively received by reviewers and is on the bestsellers list of Ghost Fiction and Magical Realism.

  A24 releases the final instalment of the X trilogy. Titled MaXXXine, the movie will show us the events after the first movie and what Maxine has been up to after escaping the psychopaths Pearl and her husband Howard.

  The sixth installment in the SCREAM franchise was Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega's last movie in the franchise before the controversies.  Apart from that, here are the Top 10 Trivia from Scream VI:

  This week’s Horror Book Pick is CHURCH BENEATH THE ROOTS by Felix Blackwell.  If you enjoyed STOLEN TONGUES by the same author, then you will be thrilled to learn that Church Beneath The Roots is a prequel. 

  Get ready to scream because the seventh installment in the Scream franchise is now moving ahead with Neve Campbell returning. 

  Ready or Not...Here I Come. Could this be the title of the sequel to the 2019 film? If only.

  Plot: A family must try to protect their daughter from damnation. What is a harbinger? In case you don't know, the definition will be given at the very start of the movie so that you don't have to reach for a dictionary. In case you forget the title of the movie, the very word is repeated several times, especially towards the third act when secrets are revealed. THE HARBINGER plays out more like a theatre play than a movie.
