Horror Book of the Week: The Ghost is Clear by A.A. Tomes

This week's Horror Book Pick is The Ghost is Clear: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (A Series of Midlife Curses) by A.A. Tomes.

Published in 2021, the novel has been positively received by reviewers and is on the bestsellers list of Ghost Fiction and Magical Realism.

Since this book is the first in the series, readers have been eagerly awaiting the sequel and have found the protagonist’s journey fascinating.

They liked the character's journey from being down in the dumps to when the character finds out more about herself.

A few criticisms were about the book having missing words and grammatical mistakes but the book has received an update and readers have reported that the errors have been fixed.

Quick Book Review of THE GHOST IS CLEAR

The story is about a woman in her forties called Brooke Durand who is facing a rough situation in which her children have left the house, and she has to try to hard to make things work with her husband David.

On her wedding anniversary, David not only admits to having an affair, but also that he wants to divorce her. Brooke tries to desperately make things work but David is adamant on his decision. Before they can talk further, they get into a car accident.

When Brooke awakes, she finds herself surrounded by her friends and children. Her children seem distracted though.

Her son Nathan and daughter Courtney seem pissed off at their father.

Brooke soon learns why. David is still going ahead with the divorce and seems the least bothered about her condition after the accident.

Brooke is disappointed but lives with hope that things will get better one day.

The story is already off on a good start. While there are no horror elements introduced in the first few chapters, the drama elements of the story keeps you interested enough to keep reading.

Brooke is a relatable character and her conflict is palpable. Written in the first person, the author manages to weave an interesting story with a very realistic thought process that makes you instantly connect with the character.

The plot does allude to some supernatural events occurring once Brooke moves on with her life and shifts to her childhood home. But what secrets are buried there?

To Read or Not to Read?

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
