Horror Short Film Review: Ignore It
PLOT SUMMARY: A family struggles to live with the evil spirit of a woman whose presence when acknowledged has deadly consequences.
After watching several hauntings in movies and reading stories about them, one would think that the ghosts stick around just so that people would notice them. And that no matter the nature of their message, good or bad, they want people to see them and either get scared or stay around to understand them.
But what if there was a way to stop an evil spirit from hurting you? A sure shot method.
You know what they say, things become real for you only if you acknowledge it. So what if you don't? Then that threat isn't real to you anymore.
Ignore it comes with a unique take on hauntings and what you will witness in six minutes is pure terror as you watch a family struggle with a very dire circumstance.
IGNORE IT Plot with Spoilers
Justin is in his room when his father Brian comes into his room and explains that the woman has returned. Justin is frightened but his father assures him that all they must do is ignore her.
Ignore the problem and it goes away. But as we have been told and learned, ignoring problems don't help much do they? A problem must be tackled with and solved. In the case of this horror movie though, every option leads to danger.
Anyway, Justin sits at the dinner table with his elder sister Emily and mother Gail.
Brian takes a seat opposite him and the family has a very uncomfortable dinner. It is a wonder they can eat anything considering the threat they are under. But they do anyway. The dinner looks delicious.
Brian tries to get Emily to talk about school while Justin worries they are being watched. The family is shown to be on edge as they continue eating while aware of a presence in their home.
Justin sees the reflection of the woman in his spoon and gasps. As he is instructed to ignore and resume eating, the woman nears amd puts her hand on Emily's shoulder.
Emily stiffens and calls out for her father who only looks at her and tells her to finish everything on her plate.
Gail can't bring herself to eat anymore nor play the ignoring game.
When the phone rings, she practically jumps out of her seat even as her family tells her to stay put but she doesn't.
Off screen the family hears her confront the woman and they panic.
There is spooky humming sound, followed by a crash. Brian tries to get into the room but the door slams shut. He bangs on it and screams at the woman to leave Gail alone. He has acknowledged her presence.
The kids come over to view this horrific turn of events. The door bursts open and they watch their father collapse on the ground.
Emily quickly turns Justin around and tells him not to look and to just look at her. Justin sees the woman reflected in Emily's glasses and panics.
Her presence has been acknowledged and she lunges at the kids.
Now we know for sure Justin has seen the woman and thereby acknowledged her. Can we sure that Emily has been claimed as a victim too?
The movie was released in October 2021 and was the winner at the Atlanta Horror Film Festival.
In the past, there have been several short horror films who were able to impress film studios and made into full feature length films.
Ignore it would make an interesting full length feature especially since we will finally get to learn why the woman has been plaguing this family.
And if there are survivors, how they cope with the consequences of this haunting or the return of the evil spirit.
At the very least, I hope there is a sequel to this thrilling Horror Short.
