Halloween Movie picks (2021)

There have been some amazing horror movies that have come out this year and a lot of them have succeeded in enthralling and frightening the audience.  My picks for this year are those movies that dared to be different and had a nice little twist that you find out only in the final scene.

The Mad Hatter-- Horror Movie ending spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: Four students are selected to study the infamous Mad Hatter Mansion that is supposed to be haunted.  If you've seen the Ghost Ship and Haunting of Hill House, and truly missed having those movies on your screen, well, here's a horror movie to make up for all that. The Mad Hatter is by no means impeccably executed, nor does it have actors doing a great job with the script. What you do have is a couple of scenes that will remind you of the scenes from the aforementioned cult movies.

The Elevator Killer

A while ago, I did a post on the creepy urban legend of THE ELEVATOR KILLER .  Of all the urban legends that I have researched on so far, this one really got to me.  Did it really happen? Could this actually happen? Is there any truth to this story?  The fact that this doesn't contain any supernatural creatures is why this story is even more frightening. It could be real. Somebody could be watching us and we wouldn't know. The people we see on the street might not all be innocent. We never know people's true intentions, do we?  And so yes, the ELEVATOR KILLER stuck in my mind because it had a possibility of actually happening. The part that is terrifying is the small span between two floors where the victim realizes she is trapped in the elevator and she can't control it or stop it from opening the doors. How many stairs could be between two floors, anyway?  The fact that the victim isn't given enough time to save herself, is what makes this legend

First Impressions (with spoilers!): Chucky--The TV show

Let's face it; if you're looking for amazing writing, great acting and meaningful dialogues, then Chucky isn't the show you might want to watch. The Chucky series is quite honestly, ridiculous. I mean, a talking doll? Who murders people? Come on. Who can't overpower a simple doll? But Chucky is unlike any other doll and if you're a fan of the Chucky franchise, you would know exactly why and what to expect.

Creepy Urban Legends: Villa de Vecchie

When we think of haunted houses, we think of an unsolved crime that had taken place, resulting in a vengeful spirit wandering the house until justice is served. The haunting behind Villa de Vecchi in Italy has a bit of a different story.

Killer Concept-- Horror Movie Ending spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: Three writers work on a story about the local serial killer. One of them is connected to the killer.   When you think about killers, what is the first question you think about? Is it why the killer killed? Or how he did his killings? These questions have led to a spike in shows and films being made about serial killers, and more often than not, these stories are romanticised and sometimes lead people to sympathize with them.

First Impressions (With Spoilers): I Know What You Did Last Summer

We all wear masks. We all hide our true selves. We pretend to be someone else so we can be accepted.  But do we reveal our true selves to ourselves when we are alone? What do you think about when you look in the mirror?  Pretty deep, huh?  Or is it pretty clichéd? How many movies and TV shows have more or less used the same monologue so that the premise can appear "deep"?

Midsommar--Ending Explained with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A couple visits a rural town during the festival, unaware they are in the presence of a pagan cult.  The world can be a cruel place, and sometimes, all you want is to have someone stand up for you, and for you to belong to that person. In a way, everyone wants someone or the other to be there for them. But what happens when unavoidable circumstances cause a distance. It's obvious, the interest is gone, and suddenly it seems like you are with someone just because you don't want to be alone. Not because you need them anymore. The interesting part of Midsommar wasn't the story as much as it was the lead characters.

Squid Game-- My thoughts about the TV show with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When hundreds of people who are in debt get a mysterious invitation to participate in a tournament of children's games, they are unaware of how dangerous the rules are.   Let's talk about Squid Game . It's not only a TV show but a global phenomenon that has caused a surge in Netflix's stock prices. It's a show where the characters have become popular, merchandise is selling like hotcakes and everywhere you go there is a meme or a reference online. But is Squid Game truly worthy of all the hype? Yes. Yes, it is.

Why?--Horror Movie endings and spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Blake goes to her boyfriend's cabin to do her writing, she finds herself next on the serial killer's target list.  Slasher movies are usually brimming with over the top acting, maniac killers that are usually shown to have no clear motives, and the final girl who is always in a tank top; and that colour is usually grey. And then there's always that one dialogue in the movie where the character will ask the killer, "Why? Why me?" The response is usually a knife or an axe to the gut. The makers of this movie couldn't come up with an engaging title so thought, why not name it after a word commonly used is slashers? Of course, as the movie progresses, as a viewer, you won't be thinking "Why?" but, "Huh?"

Creepy Legends: Exorcisms

It is said that when a demon catches hold of a person, possesses them, makes them do heinous things and hurt the innocents, then it usually means that the person requires an exorcism as the only means to save their soul. But an exorcism isn't performed on a whim. A careful investigation is always undertaken to make sure there are no frauds who are using demonic possession as an excuse to get fame or to get away with their unruly behaviour.

The Manor-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: Following a stroke, Judith is sent to a nursing home by her family where she starts to believe that something supernatural is killing the residents. I have a great appreciation for stories well told; truly they are the essence of every movie. A good story can make or break a movie. But an excellent execution of the story will guarantee the success of  a movie. The Manor suffers from terrible execution to an actually decent story. Part of the Welcome to the Blumhouse series which takes place every October on Amazon Prime, The Manor was the one movie that I thought looked decent from the lot and picked to see it first.

Scare Me-- Horror movie endings with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: Two horror writers get together during a blackout and try to scare each other with horror stories.  Being a writer is hard work, especially for those who write fiction. While building characters, an author usually has to "become" that character in order to write about it and make it believable. So in a way, writers have to sort of become directors and actors of their own story. But that is not the most challenging part of writing stories. The challenging part is coming up with an original idea. There are other challenging parts in the life of a writer too which encompass making astute observations, dealing with writer's block and of course, finding the time to write without interruptions.

Creepy Urban Legends: Inunaki Village

We've all heard of ghost towns but here's a tale about an actual ghost town. Located in Miyawaka Town in Japan, the Inunaki tunnel that leads to the Inunaki Village has its own horror stories. Allegedly, while the tunnel was being constructed, it collapsed on the workers, killing them. There are stories of motorists hearing screams as they passed through the tunnel.

Creepy Urban Legends: The Human Faced Dog (Jinmenken)

Dogs are wonderful animals that make amazing pets. They are known for their loyalty and friendships and if you adopt them, they will stay by your side no matter what.  When you think about horror stories and dogs, your first thought might be Cujo, a story by Stephen King that was adapted into a movie. Fun fact: the author barely remembered writing that one but wished he had.  Anyway, according to a Japanese Urban Legend, a Jinmenken is no ordinary dog; it has a human face.  There are plenty of theories as to why the dog can not only run fast but also has a human face. That's right. The Jinmenken has the body of a dog for sure but has a head of a human complete with a set of human teeth.  You wouldn't want to encounter one in the dark, now would you?  The Jinmenken was thought to be a scientific experiment gone wrong which would explain why it has the head of a human and a body of a dog. Another theory states that the Jinmenken is a ghost of a man who died

Bad Witch-- Horror Movie ending spoilers!

Plot Summary: Xander thinks he's doing nerdy teenager Roland a favor by taking him under his wing and teaching him witchcraft. But Xander may just not be the best teacher he thinks he is. We've seen plenty of movies and TV shows on witches by now, most of them about characters helping others with their powers. And usually, things turn out for the best, don't they? The characters too are distinctive; the good witches help people, the bad ones help themselves. So what happens when a bad witch tries to do something good? Well, it backfires of course. BAD WITCH Movie Plot Bad Witch is basically about a ne'er-do-well witch Xander who possesses knowledge about witchcraft. It all begins when he's a kid and is searching for his father in the house only to find the charred remains in the basement. His father was tied to a chair and burned. Beside him is a book of handwritten spells. Thus begins Xander's journey into witchcraft. But who burned his father? Did he combust?
