Barot House-- My take on the movie with spoilers!
Plot Summary: A series of killings rips apart the Barot Family. When the killer's identity is revealed, it causes further turmoil.
At times, we believe we can do anything for our family.
Sure, there may be disagreements, arguments, insults hurled here and there...but at the end of the day, the only reason we attempt to reconcile is that in this whole scary big world, we have a few people who are our blood. And they have to be there for us, right?
Of course, it is important to what extent you disagree with a family member.
If it is utterly impossible to see eye to eye, and every day with them makes you unhappy, then is it better to walk away or continue to compromise?
All of that depends on the individual situation.
Family is perhaps the most complicated relationship you can ever be in. You may not like each other, but hey, you have the same blood.
Barot House takes complicated family dynamics to a whole new level. Here, we have Amit, a husband with one son and three daughters, a wife whom he loves but suspects of infidelity, a mother, and a spoilt brother who has spent time in jail.
BAROT HOUSE Movie Plot
In the opening scene, we see the Barots as one big happy family. Everything changes the minute one of Amit’s daughters is killed while she’s playing hide and seek in the cemetery.
As the police investigation begins, the blame is put on the neighbour Anthony who had suspected the Barots of killing his dog.
Then it falls on Amit’s brother only because he was an ex-con. Finally, Amit is blamed for killing his daughter as he had to have fights with his wife regarding her.
Before we can even try to place a guess of our own on who the killer is, Amit’s second daughter is also killed by being pushed off the stairs.
Bhavana, Amit’s wife suspects her brother-in-law whom she sees peeking down.
Unable to take care of her youngest, Bhavana gives the baby’s responsibility to Malhar, her son.
BAROT HOUSE Ending Explained with Spoilers!
It is then that the true killer’s identity is revealed. Malhar’s first instinct after taking charge of the baby is to drown her in the bath. He is caught by Amit just in time who finally puts it all together. His musically talented nine-year-old son is a killer.
Amit is devastated, but as a last resort to hold the family together, he doesn’t reveal the truth to his family members. He makes Malhar sleep with him and is haunted by nightmares of Malhar killing his wife.
It is when Anthony’s son is also killed that Amit gives up all hope to protect his son and hope he doesn’t kill anymore. Malhar is too far gone. He initially tries to kill his son himself, but his fatherly affection stops him from going through.
However, he does confess to the police and so does Malhar.
But this is when we see another, terrifyingly psychotic side of Malhar. He manages to manipulate the doctors in the psych ward and convince them that he was taking the blame for his father.
The police arrest Amit, and Malhar is released.
Bhavana doesn’t know what to believe until she sees Malhar tossing his baby sister into the well.
The story ends with Amit being absolved of the crime and he and his wife adopting children.
What happened to Malhar? Nobody knows.
Barot House is indeed a terrifying tale and will keep you at the edge of the seat. But it is its way of telling the story that will confuse you at times.
The story keeps jumping back and forth, and before you can make sense of what is going on, another girl is killed and you wonder if Bhavana is simply imagining things or did another one of Malhar’s sisters just die.
And then there’s the scene with Malhar killing a boy in the mental institution. Why was his body never found? Didn’t the doctors notice that one of their patients was lost?
It seems even the director forgot what they were going for. Perhaps they wanted Malhar’s case to be resolved in front of the doctors itself, considering they were in two minds about his behaviour.
Once they had seen him kill the boy, they would have known. It was a storyline that needed to be wrapped up.
Apart from that, the movie was interesting though a little uncomfortable to watch considering its theme of children being killed.
Scary scale:
He was only imagining killing his friend in the mental institution. Didn't actually kill him.
