Top 10 Moments from KNOCK AT THE CABIN
M.Night Shyamalan has done it again. He has once again made a movie that will make you sit at the edge of your seat while the twist that usually reveals itself toward the end, unwinds.
The movie was based on Paul Tremblay’s novel THE CABIN AT THE END OF THE WORLD and of course, the movie ending differs from the novel.
The movie had some spectacular moments. Here are the top 10 moments from Knock at the Cabin. Spoilers ahead…
1) Dave Bautista may have started his career as a WWE superstar and then gone on to do several action movies, but his character in the movie will take you by surprise. He plays a reserved, almost timid, high school coach who hardly raises his voice in the whole movie.
2) Just like in all his movies, M. Night Shyamalan makes a cameo in this one as well but you may just miss it. When Leonard tries to convince Eric and Andrew about the catastrophes, he puts the TV on and just before the news comes on, there is an infomercial about air fryers and guess who is in it? The director of course.
3) Rupert Grint stars in another one of M. Night Shyamalan’s projects, although his role is tad small. His character Redmond turns out to be a mysterious character. Andrew claims Redmond is actually Bannon who attacked him in a pub a couple of months back.
Whether or not that is actually true, is never really confirmed. We do see a scene of Andrew being attacked by a man in a cap, and later we do find out Redmond was actually Bannon.
He is supposed to be a symbol for one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse and wears red which stands for malice.
4)Andrew and Eric are absolutely certain that the four intruders are part of a cult. There’s a part in the movie when the intruders kill one of their group member after Eric and Andrew fail to make a choice.
If you haven’t read the book, you would definitely be waylaid by the scene and believe that the four intruders are a part of a cult.
5) The first scene in the movie shows the little girl, Wen, collecting grasshoppers and putting them in a jar. Later, we see Leonard, played by Dave Bautista, carefully catching a grasshopper and giving it to Wen.
Grasshoppers are supposed to be symbols of intuition and taking a leap of faith.
Based on what happens in the movie afterwards, perhaps the grasshoppers were supposed to signify that the characters had to take a leap of faith when considering the events they are told about and made to watch.
6) There’s a part in the movie when planes fall from the sky. It is one of the catastrophes caused by Andrew and Eric refusing to make a choice on who to sacrifice in their family.
According to the news report, all the planes, all over the world are just falling from the skies. The effects look off but that is what is shown as news reports.
Towards the end, when the “choice” has been made, it turns out that some of the planes landed safely even though the initial reports implied that all planes had crashed suddenly.
7) The four intruders/ horsemen talk about getting visions. Eric and Andrew are obviously skeptical about that. But when Leonard stands next to a TV and manages to say what the reporter is about to say, verbatim, it is not only Eric and Andrew who are surprised. As the audience, we too must now consider that the four are not crazy cult members after all.
8) After three of the intruders/horsemen are dead, it is Leonard’s time to make the sacrifice. Since there is no one to kill him, he slits his own throat. Catastrophe falls all over them. Lightning strikes the trees and fire begins to spread. It seems that it is too late to make a choice and the world is surely come to an end.
9) Eric, who is already concussed after a fall during the struggle with the intruders, claims to have seen a figure and visions. Andrew is certain that Eric has hurt himself which is why he is hallucinating but Andrew convinces him with a vision of the future where Wen is successful and he is a loving and supportive father to her. Andrew shoots Eric while lightning strikes the cabin.
10) With the sacrifice now made, fires begin to die down, planes are safe and diseases are under control. Andrew takes Wen in the car. Boogie shoes by KC and the Sunshine band plays, reminding Andrew of happier times with Eric. He switches it off.
Wen likes the reminder of her late father Eric and turns it on but seeing how it upsets Andrew, turns it off.
Andrew realizes he should hold onto the happier moments with Eric and turns the song back on.
The movie had a lot of thrilling moments and is definitely worth a watch.
