FROM SEASON 2-- My take on the TV Show with Spoilers!

Plot: In the second season, Boyd finds his hands full with a busload of people, broken friendships, and a potential weapon against the creatures who come out at night.

If there is one horror TV show that needs a horror fan’s attention, it has to be FROM.

Last season, FROM kept the viewers hooked with its pulsing mystery, relatable characters, and gripping storyline. Each episode left you wanting more. We learn about this town from the Matthews family who find themselves trapped with only strangers to rely on to survive every night.

A forest surrounds the town and it is from there that the creatures emerge every night to rip apart flesh of any human they find. Luckily, Boyd had found talismans that ward off these creatures.

The first season ends with Boyd and Sara undertaking a journey that takes them deeper into the forest only for them to get separated. Boyd finds himself trapped between walls.

Outside, in the town, Tabitha is digging tunnels when Jim receives a message on the radio that his wife is in trouble. He finds the house on the verge of collapse.

On top of everything, a bus takes a turn and stops at the diner.

The second season continues the story but it also leaves a lot unexplained which can get frustrating. We meet new characters but none of them come with engaging backstories.

We are introduced to a new threat, something more deadly than the creatures of the night, but we never get to find out what it is. It’s a carrot that dangles in front of us and a used as a device to secure the next season.

Regardless, FROM is still immensely watchable and the story is given in the capable hands of all the actors who do a commendable job with the material they are given.

The second season does leave with an enticing trap to get you to want to watch the next season immediately.

Now only if the story had made more of a headway this season, it would have been perfect.

FROM SEASON TWO Plot

Boyd was sent through a tree by Sara, last season. He ends up in a closed space and screams for help. Luckily, there is someone to hear him, an old man called Martin. After Boyd is saved, he is stunned to discover that the old man is chained to the wall and is begging him to kill him.

Back in the town, Elgin, one of the passengers on the bus, has a vision after the bus encounters the fallen tree and crows. Still, no one heeds his warning and continue on. Of course, we know that once anyone sees the tree, there is no going back.

They arrive in town and stop near the diner. Donna is shocked to see the new arrivals and heads over to give the orientation. Of course, none of the passengers on the bus take Donna seriously, especially Bakta, the bus driver who is pissed off at being told crazy stories.

Since it is getting dark, Donna decides the only way to stop the passengers from going in circles around the town, is to shoot the tires. This angers Bakta even more but since Donna is wielding a gun, it is best to do what she is telling them to.

Meanwhile, Jim discovers the house on the verge of collapse and after receiving a message from the radio, tries to get into the basement to help Tabitha out. What he doesn’t know at this point is that Tabitha is safe and sound in the tunnels below. Victor finds her and guides her through the tunnels.

Jim is aided by bartender Tom and two more passengers from the bus. Of course the roof collapses on them and they are trapped. As it is getting darker, Donna realizes that the three trapped men must spend the night under the collapsed roof. Julie is naturally disturbed as she doesn’t know the whereabouts of her mother.

Jim assures her that he will be fine because of the talisman. Night falls, and the new arrivals are at the diner. Julie wants to go out once she sees the creatures coming out. Many passengers, now believe Donna about the creatures and this place.

Jim and Tom try talking to the new guy so that he doesn’t get too terrified and start screaming, thus alerting the creatures. Unfortunately, he has suffered internal bleeding and dies.

Tom tries to move and ends up alerting the creatures to his whereabouts.

Tabitha sees symbols painted on the tunnel walls, the very ones that Jade keeps drawing.

Boyd refuses to kill Martin who keeps warning him about things that are more dangerous than the creatures. A music box begins to play, and Boyd is so distracted, that Martin wounds Boyd’s arm and transfers the squirmy things from his body to Boyd’s.

Boyd manages to get back into the forest and finds a trailer occupied by Tabitha and Victor who are hiding from the creatures.

Last season, Kenny had professed his feelings to Kristi who was planning to give the relationship a chance since she thought she wouldn’t see her girlfriend again. As luck would have it, Mari, the woman Kristi was engaged to, was on the bus. The two see each other and share a tearful reunion. Kenny is obviously disappointed.

Elgin finds his way into the trailer too and Boyd, initially has qualms taking him in. He lets him in and they all study Victor’s secret hiding space.

A couple who was among the passengers, hide and share a romantic moment, only to be interrupted by the creatures.

When morning arrives, Jim is saved from under the roof. Tom unfortunately has been ripped apart by the creatures. The town is now sans a bartender.

Jim and Tabitha are reunited and Julie decides to stay with the family for a while.

A woman called Kelly is discovered in the forest, pinned to a tree, with an arrow through her head. Kenny and Ellis call Kristi to help and she immediately comes to the conclusion that the woman cannot be saved. They all realize that the creatures were cruel enough to kill Kelly’s boyfriend in front of her and then leave her against a tree.

Boyd eventually appears after heartbreaking stories are shared to do what is required. He uses the gun on Kelly to spare her the pain.

Donna must deal with shortage of food and keeping the townsfolk fed. Elgin talks about his dreams and how he only remembers glimpses of it but that they may contain hints to this place.

One of the passengers called Randall is not interested in listening to Donna until Boyd intervenes. While the newbies decide to take Donna’s advice, Randall prefers staying in the bus.

Bakta had earlier discovered the bodies of an elderly couple after they were attacked by creatures. Randall must stay on that very bus now which is bloodstained.

Victor returns to his room to find something missing. Ethan is happy to see his old friend back and tells him Jade was looking around in his room. Victor goes to Jade’s place but before that, he waits outside to listen to him play the violin. When he barges in, Jade is shocked to discover Victor is still alive.

Jade demands to know about the symbols but Victor is mad at him. Later, he does come to Jade and promises to show him something if he plays the violin. He takes Jade to a clearing in the forest where there are dozens of cars, possibly belonging to the townsfolk. They are kept there so as not to constantly remind the residents of how they had come to this town only to be trapped forever.

Jade plays the violin, while Victor sits on the car that belonged to his mother.

Kristi learns that Mari has relapsed in her absence and started using again. One of the passengers in an elder woman called Tillie who knowing that Kristi is the only one in town to go to in medical emergencies, hands over her bottle of morphine as she is suffering from cancer. Kristi promises to keep it safe but Mari thinks it’s okay to use a little bit of it.

Boyd can’t rid himself of the squiggly things under his arms. On top of it all, he keeps having imaginary conversations with Father Khatri, and hears the music box.

Tabitha begins to see odd kids and a tower made of stones.

Kenny approaches Boyd and shows her that Sara has returned. She claims to have used the tree to get back. Kenny wants to know how she is still alive considering she was supposed to go in the box.

Unable to bear the guilt, Sara eventually confesses to Kenny about the night she left the door open and let the creatures kill Kenny’s father.

Jim and Tabitha are angry with Boyd too for not telling them that Sara was alive. Sara is treated like a social pariah while Kenny resigns as deputy after he feels betrayed by Boyd for keeping the truth from him.

Eventually, one of the older residents in town learns that there is a food shortage and blames the new arrivals for this circumstance. Donna tries to calm him down and Ellis intervenes as well, only to be stabbed by the panic-ridden man.

Since it is nighttime, the residents are at a loss for what they should do now. Elgin decides to be the brave one and rushes out to get the truck. In a rather tense sequence, Fatima, Ellis and Elgin navigate through the night to get to Kristi’s.

Kristi, having found out that Mari has taken a taste of Tillie’s medication, is disturbed. Boyd has his own issues with the wormy things under his skin and reveals that his Parkinson’s may be getting better.

Ellis is brought in time to get stitched up but needs a blood transfusion. Boyd refuses because of the things under his skin. At first no one believes him but when they see it for themselves, Kenny comes up with a plan to have it transferred to him so that Boyd could save his son.

Boyd comes up with a better plan. He hasn’t been made the town’s sheriff for nothing. He steps out and once he is surrounded by the creatures, cuts himself and transfers his wormy friends into the creature who is at this point known as Smiley.

Right before his very eyes, Smiley starts to tremble and collapses. The other creatures surround him, surprised. Boyd rushes inside and is now able to donate his blood.

Ellis is revived and Fatima is relieved. She goes up to Kristi and asks her for a pregnancy test.

The next morning, Boyd checks up on the creature and he and Kristi decide to cut him open and study what the creature is made up of.

To Kristi’s shock, the creature’s organs are completely desiccated. There is no blood or anything that can be used to poison the other creatures. Frustrated, Kristi slams her fists into the creature’s organs that result in some bile leaking out. Boyd decides to use the bile but doesn’t know how until he gets an idea from Elgin to make silver bullets.

Jim is still conjuring up conspiracy theories and believes he may be in a world controlled by someone else and that he and the others are unwilling participants in an experiment. Kind of like The Truman Show.

Donna tells him to forget about it but Jim finds a friend in Randall who believes that Donna may be on this experiment too. They try to use Randall’s drone that he brought for his nephew’s birthday, to see what is beyond the forest. Unfortunately it does not fly high enough. Jim and Randall decide to spend the night in the trailer to spy on the creatures.

Sara is being ridiculed in the town. Ethan talks to her and tells her that he will never be friends with her again. Elgin is the only one who sits by her side but when he learns of her crimes he feels awkward. However, when Sara is bullied by the townspeople and has her favorite memento from her brother, broken, Elgin pities her.

Elgin later confides in Julie and she advises him that the only way to deal with this problem of being trapped here, is to drown out the thoughts by taking a bath and lowering his head so that he cannot hear anything.

When Elgin finally takes a bath, he is attacked by a creepy looking woman and almost drowns. Before that, he hears the music box and sees the shadows of a ballerina as well.

Fatima tells Donna that she is pregnant and Donna encourages her, reminding her that she needs to be grateful for having something nice happen to her in this place.

Victor and Ethan resume their friendship and they try to figure out why the weather has changed and if the trees have moved away further.

Jim goes to see Randall in the forest and instead sees Donna tied to a tree. Randall has obviously lost it and plans on torturing her until she reveals the truth.

Meanwhile, the creature who was dead, has attracted cicadas that suddenly disappear after Boyd and Kristi sees them. The cicadas travel all over and end up attacking a man’s wife. The man goes delirious and starts attacking everyone. He is put down.

The cicadas go fluttering away but Boyd realizes that they are dealing with a new threat. He manages to free Donna and since it is nighttime, realizes that they must hide in the trailer. Boyd thinks it’s a good idea to try out his bullets-dipped-in-creature-bile. He sends Randall to do the deed but they all realize soon enough that the bullets do not work and that the creatures halt when they hear the music box.

Later, Randall is attacked by the cicadas and goes in a catatonic state. Realizing that people sleeping poses a threat, Boyd sends out a message that they must all stay awake.

Unfortunately, Julie, Mari, and Randall, all end up in a catatonic state at once.

How FROM Season 2 Ends

Victor remembers that the drawings were made by his sister but he had forgotten. He remembers how his mother had left him in charge of his sister as she said something about saving the children. However, his sister had run after the mother and both of them were not seen again.

Tabitha realizes that this may be a hint as to how to get out of this place. She also recognizes the symbols Jade keeps seeing as those painted on the tunnels.

Jade goes into the tunnels and sees the symbols. He also sees seven children laying on stone beds and chanting while looking up. Jade glances up and sees the symbol that is actually an opening. But then in a second it is gone.

Ellis learns Fatima is pregnant and is ecstatic. Boyd comes to know later when the residents of the Colony House receive a call from an unknown person who recites a nursery rhyme.

The nursery rhyme makes a reference to the melody that needs to be stopped.

Ellis and Fatima get married and when a remark about finding light in darkness is made, Boyd decides to visit the forest once again and enters the ruins.

There he finds himself back in the place he was where Randall, Julie and Mari are chained up and screaming. He also sees the music box playing and realizes he needs to destroy it. But his wife comes to him and prevents him from destroying it, reasoning that everyone is going to die today or in a few days time.

Boyd decides not to take his dead wife’s advice and destroys the music box with his torch. Randall, Julie and Mari wake up, much to everyone’s relief.

Tabitha asks Victor to take her to where he saw the tower last. He takes her to a tree and Tabitha enters it.

Once she reaches the top of the tower, she encounters the boy in white who tells her he is sorry but it has to be done.

Tabitha is pushed out the window.

We then see Tabitha on a hospital bed. Since Kristi doesn’t have beds like these in her makeshift clinic, it is a major hint as to what has happened.

Tabitha wakes up to find a doctor telling her that she was found by hitch-hikers three days ago and brought to the hospital. When Tabitha realizes she is in another place, she rushes to the window and opens the curtains that reveal the world to her.

Tabitha has successfully escaped from the town and all its problems and creatures.

Unfortunately, her family isn’t there with her.

The season ends.

FROM managed to keep the suspense going this season and it comes as no surprise that it has been renewed for a third season.

While Season 2 was gripping in every way, it also didn’t take the story forward and was unable to develop the personalities of the new characters.

Season 3 may show us what happens when Fatima gives birth. If she does. Maybe she will be pregnant and only be able to give birth in the real world?

No doubt, there will be a fresh threat to terrorize the town. Jim, Ethan and Julie will have to live without Tabitha.

Tabitha will have to find a way to save her family. Maybe we will finally learn who is leaving all those clues via phone and radio messages. Could it be those people who managed to escape to the real world? Or perhaps they are the voices of ghosts.

Maybe, the people who died in the town, wake up in the real world? That means we may see the return of Abby, Tom, and Father Khatri.

Hopefully, Season Three will up the horror quotient of this series.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
