Let the Wrong One In (2021)-- My take on the movie with Ending Spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Deco turns into a vampire, his brother Matt is faced with the difficulty of saving him especially when a vampire hunter comes into town.

Over the years there has been such an influx of vampire movies that it became monotonous. There were vampire movies and then there were their sequels. While some movies were about the slaying of vampires in a brutal and gory manner, there were others that focused on the eternal love the vampires would share because of their long life.

So it's always refreshing to see a spoof on vampires that removes some of the frustration of watching several vampire movie franchises and TV shows. And of course, it is always fun watching a spoof or a comedy, isn't it?

LET THE WRONG ONE IN can be silly in parts and there is a lot of blood spilling about but the movie also manages to hold your attention with its storytelling. It is definitely a welcome change to watch the central relationship being about the family dynamics rather than a high school girl falling in love with a centuries old vampire.

LET THE WRONG ONE IN Movie Plot

The movie begins with Sheila enjoying her hen party. She's in a tacky wedding dress and enjoying a night at a pub with her friends. But then she is bitten by a stranger.

We then see Deco roaming about and sure enough he is bitten too.

Then we meet Matt who works at a supermarket and loves garlic fries. He just loves his garlic sauce but doesn't finish it.

The next morning Matt is having breakfast and of course his mother is terrible at making it.

Deco is seen walking about town, suddenly able to take the sunlight and trying to futilely shade himself. He somehow manages to make it to his brother's. Fortunately, their mother is out and that's a good thing because Deco and his mother had an argument which resulted in the eldest son being thrown out of the house.

Matt contemplates engaging with his brother who has had a substance abuse problem, still,  he's his brother after all.

Besides Deco keeps reminding Matt that he owes him. Matt reluctantly invites him and Deco asks several times "Are you inviting me in?"

At this point both are unaware of what it is that Matt has invited in.

Matt notices that Deco can't stand the sun nor has an interest in his garlic fries. In fact, he seems to be allergic to it.

It is when Deco vomits blood, staining Matt's only clean t-shirt that his brother decides to call the doctor. Clearly, Matt's mother isn't great at doing laundry either. Matt has to spend the remainder of the movie in that very blood splattered t-shirt.

The doctor is called and he checks on Deco but then pulls out a stake. Turns out his name is Henry and he is a vampire hunter. Matt catches him before his brother is staked.

Henry tells him how he's been keeping an eye on Deco and that it was his fiancée Sheila who turned him. He thinks his fiancée wants to create a whole empire and an army of vampires which is why he had to give up his hobby of trainspotting and become a cab driver. When he sees Deco enter the house and then sees a doctor enter, he knocks him out and takes his place.

We don't learn whether the doctor gets up later or not.

Matt finds it all unbelievable but when Deco keeps showing interest in necks, he realizes that his brother may in fact be a vampire.

Matt decides to learn about vampires and considers staking Deco. After all taking care of a vampire can be hard work.

In order to feed him, Matt kidnaps the neighbor's rabbit and tries to feed Deco, but his brother isn't very good at being a vampire yet and instead bites Matt's hand. The rabbit hops away, safe and sound.

Henry then teaches Matt about stakes and which wood makes the best ones.

Deco has made peace with the fact that he's a vampire and now wants to turn his girlfriend into one too so he can be with her forever.

The brothers get into an argument and it is revealed that Matt never really owed Deco anything. Deco was taking drugs and in order to buy more he was selling items from the house.

When he sells the TV and their mother grows irate, Matt reluctantly points at his brother. Deco is shocked at the betrayal as their mother throws him out of the house. Matt tells Deco he only wanted him to stop using drugs which is why he told their mother the truth.

Matt decides that if Deco goes without his fangs his appetite for blood will be curbed too. It does work and Deco finds it difficult to control his hunger.

Later his girlfriend comes for a visit and rather than being afraid that Deco has turned into a vampire, she wants to become one herself.

When it happens, the girlfriend seems to have a good handle on her powers and is able to change into a bat whole flapping her wings. Deco tries it and fails miserably.

LET THE WRONG ONE IN Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Eventually Sheila gets to our fumbling heroes and decides to take down Henry. But first she must distract him. She's going on a rant about their engagement but Henry keeps getting distracted by the numerous trains passing by at that exact moment. Sheila loses her patience and stabs Henry to death.

Matt goes to the vampire's club to save his mother who was taken by the vampires for having AB blood type. His disguise of wearing a coat over his blood splattered t-shirt doesn't work.

Matt also dons vampire teeth over his braces and just about manages to escape with his mother when they are surrounded by vampires. Deco comes in to but is unable to impress his mother as he fidgets with the lighter. Their mother, who always had a cigarette in hand, manages to flick it and burn the vampires.

Deco and his mother get into an argument and Matt intervenes reminding them they are both at fault. Deco was a wastrel and their mother was just too hard on everyone. Their mither relents and she is able to escape the club.

Matt and Deco try to get rid of the head vampire and are able to thwart her when Matt burps on her. He had just eaten garlic fries. While she fumbles, the brothers stake her from both sides causing her heart to puncture and for her to explode, spilling blood everywhere, even on the brothers.

Matt and Deco then run and reach a dead end as more vampires follow them. As they say their goodbyes Deco decides to try one last time to flap his jacket and turn into a bat. He succeeds but only just. He's able to turn his body into a bat's but his head remains human. He also possessed enough strength to lift his brother and remarks about his weight. Matt pretty much tells him he's not that heavy.

The family is reunited again and everything is fine for a while.

We later see two men break into a car only to find themselves fighting off a bat.

Much later we find out Deco has moved in with his girlfriend and trying to get his life together by building IKEA furniture.

All's well that ends well.

The movie ends.

LET THE WRONG ONE IN is witty and charming.  It makes no apologies for having clunky special effects and instead remarkably incorporates it into the plot. You are watching an awkward comedy about vampirism after all, the clumsy effects work in its favor.

After a long time, this movie is a welcome change and addition in the comedy horror genre about vampires.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
