Unboxed-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT: An influencer is forced to play a sick game when she does a giveaway on Halloween Night.

For a while now, giveaways and unboxing videos have been quite a trend online. All you have to do is watch some online, subscribe to their channel and wait until they set up a giveaway and then answer the questions during a show. How easy is that?

For the influencer too, it is a grand way to get more views and subscribers. It's a win-win situation.

What can go wrong?

Everything in a horror movie.

Now, Unboxed is actually a pretty decent movie and what works is that it doesn't drag on with unnecessary scenes just so that it can stretch to one and a half hour. The movie is a little over an hour and that's just right for the content.

But no movie is without flaws and the only one I could think of after the movie ends is how the motive is not explained.

UNBOXED Movie Plot

The movie begins with an influencer called Ria opening boxes she received from her fans. She is delighted to get so many gifts and feigns enthusiasm.

When she opens a box of gummies and puts it in her mouth, you know something is up. She pauses her livestream, spits out the gummy and complains about it having a weird taste.

Uh oh.

The next thing we see is Ria frothing from the mouth and collapsing. But the people online watching her don't get it. They still think Ria is putting up a show for them.

Her disappearance later is also seen as a publicity stunt. Sigh, the drawbacks of being an influencer. Everyone is alwaya going to think you're a fake.

We then meet Laura whom everyone knows as Lala online. She tries out new makeup products online and is getting ready to do an unboxing and giveaway event on her channel at Halloween.

Her friend and manager Hannah wants her to give a really good performance because apparently both their jobs are on the line.

Laura has her boyfriend who obviously wants to do something else with her on Halloween knowing fully well she has to work. He plays the disappointed boyfriend who leaves melodramatically so that Laura can feel bad about her work.

Laura goes online and while we see some of the gifts with colorful wrapping, there are white boxes with black ribbons on one side of the table.

Uh oh...the packaging is so ominous...

The show goes underway and Laura opens the innocent boxes and pulls out stuff one by one. She isn't exactly doing a great job promoting the products but it's okay. Everyone online thinks she has great skin and she looks great.

Finally, Laura picks up one of the boxes but just then the bell rings. It's a trick or treater. Without wondering what is inside the box, she just hands it over to the kid who wanted candy instead.

She also doesn’t ask people who come to her door if it is okay to film them. They too don't fuss. It's two minutes of fame after all.

The kid and her father are sent on their way and Laura goes on to open more boxes.

It's only when she hands over another one of those white boxes to a trick or treater, and also tries to get an elderly man to subscibe to her channel, that things finally get to the point.

The kid opens the box right away and asks his grandfather what is kamasutra.

His grandfather gets majorly pissed off and accuses Laura of running an obscene channel. Laura is shamed in front of her audience but she puts up a smile and moves on. Hannah calls her and makes sure Laura understands that she doesn't need to increase the USP of her show by putting out such bold moves. Laura claims it was just an accident but she begins to look at the white boxes suspiciously.

She opens another and finds a dress along with a threat on her phone. Her boyfriend has been kidnapped and if she doesn’t do as the kidnapper says, the boyfriend dies. She is also warned not to alert the police.

Throughout the evening, Laura has to follow the kidnapper's ridiculous demands to the point that she even has to put poop on her face. There is a bit of a continuity issue here as Laura's face make up appears after she washed her face but then it disappears again.

UNBOXED Ending explained with spoilers!

Laura is continuously threatened and shown videos of her boyfriend beinh tortured, including a part where his lips are sewn shut.

Laura is wearing a tracker that she isn't allowed to remove and must do as the man in the mask says.

Hannah realizes something us up when Laura doesn’t pick up her phone and gets in her car only to have her throat slit.

Luckily for Laura she also has a friend who is a med student and has a crush on her. Throughout the Halloween party he has been watching her even though his sister tells him to get a life.

Even he believes Laura is behaving strangely and goes to see her.

Meanwhile, the kid who received the first giftbox from Laura instead of candy, finally opens the box and screams.

The police comes to Laura's house and her audience accuse the whole scene of being fake and the start of an adult movie.

The cop does look fake...hmm...

He takes a gift box from her for research purposes and opens it to find it full of gummies. Laura has seen Ria's video and wonders if it is poisoned. She tries to stop the cop and make excuses about it being expired.

The cop is like, nope, candy is candy. I'll take my chances. It's Halloween after all and he is craving candy.

After he leaves, Laura receives a message from the kidnapper who informs her that she broke a rule he had set which meant she couldn’t talk to cops. Laura is shocked and then physically shocked as well. She collapses.

The guy who has a crush on her comes over and tries to perform CPR on her but doesn't check his surroundings. Laura, manages to see someone come up behind the guy before she loses consciousness.

When she wakes up again, it is dark and there is a masked man roaming outside the house.

There's some running around as Laura tries to dodge him. She manages to call the police, then does some more running around before getting hold of a knife and stabbing the guy.

She tries to leave but the door doesn't open.

The man limps towards her and collapses. Her curiosity piqued, Laura pulls off his mask to find that it is none other than her boyfriend. But his mouth is sewn shut.

That means...it couldn't be him who has been threatening her. Laura is mortified as the police come over. Clearly she is going to be charged with the murder of her boyfriend.

Elsewhere, we see the cop walking on the street and throwing away his badge. Of course he wasn't  a real cop. Head slap.

He also enjoys the candy. Turns out it wasn't poisoned after all.

Oh poor Laura!

The movie ends and we never get to understand why this man hated influencers so much.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
