My Best Friend's Exorcism-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT: After her best friend gets possessed, Abby must find a way to get her back before she hurts more of their friends.

What would you do for your best friend? Share your last sandwich? Wake up at 2 am to take their call? Pick them up from the airport no matter what time is their flight?

Would you also be willing to go against a demon to save your friend?

No? Well, Abby sure does and she utilizes a unique way to dispel the demon.

My best friend's exorcism is based on a novel of the same name and was written by Grady Hendrix.

The movie is a good way to pass time and an enjoyable teen movie. The only flaw? The story doesn't properly establish the friendships that is what the movie is about.

Abby and Gretchen are friends and keep saying LYLAS (Love you like a sister?) everytime they end a conversation. They are friends with two more girls Glee and Margaret.

The fact that these friends are si thick to the point that they are ready to take on demons and forgive each other for almost killing them becomes a little hard to comprehend. A little bit of backstory would have helped cement the reason why Abby goes to great lengths to save Gretchen from a demon.

Apart from that little flaw, the movie is still decent and a good teen drama.

MY BEST FRIEND'S EXORCISM Plot

The movie begins with two teenage girls Abby and Gretchen, talking to each other on the phone. Gretchen is teasing Abby over the crush she has on Brother Morgan.

Abby blushes but it is obvious she has feelings for Brother Morgan. She is also sad that Gretchen is moving away although her friend assures her they will always be in touch.

We then see their contrasting families. Abby's family barely notices her and give her money fot lunch. Gretchen's family is super strict and makes sure she wipes off lip gloss before she leaves for school. So just why does Gretchen still apply lip gloss every morning when she knows her family disapproves of it? And then anyway, Abby is going to lend her a lip gloss anyway.

Abby picks her up and they head to school where they meet two other girls, Glee and Margaret. Margaret has a boyfriend called Wallace who is the typical obnoxious jock who thinks he's hilarious and cool.

Soon it's the weekend and the girls make plans to go to the lake. On the way Abby and Gretchen make some typical teen comments about their interfering parents.

When they reach the lake, the four girls relax, and swim and have fun...right before Wallace comes over to scare them. And that too in the middle of their ouija game.

Literally only Margaret is happy to see him because Glee has a crush on Margaret, and Abby and Gretchen roll eyes at him.

But fear not, Wallace has brought the one thing to liven up the girls' weekend: owl stickers, for licking.

The girls immediately get on the wagon and throw away all inhibitions, even if it means they have to go skinny-dipping.

Abby is the only one who doesn’t jump in and Margaret makes a mean joke about Abby losing her makeup in the water. Turns out Abby has an acne problem she is embarassed of.

Abby storms off while Gretchen goes to pacify her. The girls come upon a creepy cabin in the woods. Of course the overly enthusiastic Gretchen wants to go in while the overly cautious Abby wants to shuffle her feet for a bit.

Nevertheless the girls go in. Now remember the girls were playing with the ouija board before? Well, they forgot to say their goodbyes because a demon comes after them whispering "Mine...Mine..."

He plays around with the girls, making them believe they are with each other. Except, the first chance it gets, it drags Gretchen across the floor.

What do demons do after dragging a person across the floor? We never get to see exactly how a demon possesses a person.

Abby is joined by her friends. Wallace has gone home for some reason. He probably didn’t like some of the jokes the girls threw his way.

The girls find Gretchen just standing there and blaming Abby for leaving her alone. Abby's buts are of no use to Gretchen who is clearly pissed off but doesn’t show it just yet.

At school, Gretchen is clearly off. At the assembly, there's a show being put up by some fitness freaks who are also religious. One of them, focuses on Gretchen and looks stunned. Abby notices this.

Later at lunch, Gretchen doesn't eat and when her friends make a comment, she throws her sandwich towards the birds without breaking the bread into pieces. Evil!

As they talk, Gretchen then vomits on Wallace who is more concerned about his Lacoste shirt than the gross chunks projected at him.

Abby begins to suspect it is a reaction to drugs.

Later at night, Gretchen is sleeping peacefully when the "Mine" demon comes to take away her blanket. Mine!  He throws it on the floor where it pulsates and freaks out Gretchen.

At school the next day, Sister Kathleen lectures about the ill effects of drinking alcohol. Gretchen doesn't find any of her friends' comments funny. Brother Morgan enters and Abby gets heart eyes.

Gretchen suddenly gets up and blames Wallace for touching her neck. He's leaning away from her, making sure she doesn’t vomit on him again.

Sister Kathleen then forbids Gretchen from going to the bathroom not realizing she's dealing with a "mine" demon. No bathrooms? Okay, I'll use the floor as my bathroom. Mine!

Everyone finds it hilarious to see Gretchen pee publicly. Imagine the stench afterwards...

After that Gretchen doesn’t come to school and when Abby goes to see her at home, her parents don't allow her. Abby leaves but Gretchen comes running and gets into her car.

Abby stops on the side of the road and Gretchen tells her how someone has hurt her and visits her every night to sit on her chest. Abby assumes her friend has had someone force himself on her.

Abby doesn't think she needs to keep this a secret even though Gretchen told her to, and blabs it to her parents. Gretchen's parents are horrified but more so because they realize their daughter has taken drugs.

Abby tries Sister Kathleen who doesn't believe her and tells her that Gretchen's parents have already given her the heads up on the rumor. Brother Morgan is there too and tries to feebly stand up for her but Sister Kathleen stops him.

Abby decides to become a detective and figure out what happened that night. She visits the cabin again and then calls Glee. She tells her she suspects Wallace as he very conveniently left after Gretchen was attacked. Glee, the faithful friend, hands the phone to Margaret who is livid at the accusation thrown at her boyfriend.

At school, Abby becomes an outcast as Margaret and Glee ignore her presence. Wallace comes to punch Abby for the accusation.

Gretchen comes over and there are some boils all over her lips. Gretchen is pissed that Abby told everyone when she specifically told her not to.

When Brother Morgan announces a dunking game for charity, Gretchen volunteers Abby and herself. Then Gretchen backs out stating she isn’t well. Abby pleads with her to miss the shot.

But nope. Gretchen takes her ultimate revenge by hitting the target. Down Abby falls into the water, smearing all her makeup. When she emerges she argues with Gretchen who isn’t done humiliating her yet. She announces Abby's fantasies to Brother Morgan and anyone who wants to listen.

Abby goes to the bathroom and tells Gretchen they are over. Gretchen gets into a stall and starts to hurt herself with a pin while voices tell her how no one wants to be friends with her and how she is hated.

While Abby goes home to tear off photos, Gretchen goes home to get possessed by the demon. Her house alarm goes off and while her parents are busy, the demon takes her. Her father comes to check ip on her and finds her back turned to him. Had he told her to turn around, he would have seen the whites in her eyes. Also, she wasn't doing her homework, rather, she has been scribbling "Hell" over and over.

At school, Gretchen pulls a Jennifer from Jennifer's Body and everyone gawks at her. They are at biology class where they must stab baby pigs. Abby thinks hers has come alive and she screams which causes everyone to laugh at her.

Margaret wants to know the secret of Gretchen's diet and pretty much snatches her "diet" shake that is guaranteed to kill her appetite.

Gretchen uses Margaret's obsession with diet shakes as a way to get to Wallace.

Soon enough, Gretchen is flirting with Wallace while Margaret looks sick. Glee has found a note from a secret admirer and Gretchen pretty much tells Glee it is from Margaret.

Of course, Glee proclaims her love to Margaret who laughs it off.

Margaret gets horribly sick afterward.

Abby snoops into Gretchen's things and finds a notebook filled with writings about Hate, Kill, and the name ANDRAS.

Gretchen goes to cheer up Glee and gives her a brownie. Glee gets an allergic reaction as the brownie has peanuts in it. Gretchen taunts Glee as she writhes and gasps. Eventually she is saved just as Abby has seen a drawing Gretchen made of an unconscious Glee.

Abby goes to meet Margaret who throws up a eleven foot worm. Turns out the "diet" shake had tapeworm eggs and they had hatched and grown in Margaret's tummy. And they wanted some frozen yogurt. Luckily, Margaret's dog comes in to defend her.

Glee wants to be friends with Abby again and they decide they need to save Gretchen.

Abby visits the Lemon Brother's Fitness Club and looks for the guy who had been shocked to see Gretchen. His name is Christian and his brother treat him like a handyman.

He does however have a special gift which is to peek into people and see if they are possessed. He also loves yogurt and is ready to give out all information for that.

He tells Abby that Gretchen has a demon in her which is no big deal because literally, every high school has one demon hiding in somebody. He also agrees to help Abby exorcise it for more frozen yogurt.

Abby breaks into Gretchen's house and drugs her diet coke. Most of Christian's dialogue is voiceovers which means the actor clearly wasn't free to shoot his scenes properly.

Gretchen is alerted to a presence in her house and catches Abby while she is leaving. She kicks her around for a bit before taking a break to drink her coke. That's when she falls on the ground.

MY BEST FRIEND'S EXORCISM Ending Explained with Spoilers

Abby and Christian take Gretchen back to the cabin. Christian makes a comment about owls being attracted to their demon master.

Gretchen wakes up and is pissed that she is all tied up. She mocks the two of them for thinking she is possessed. Christian tries to get her to reveal her name but Abby answers instead. Christian takes her to the other room and explains she needs to butt out of the ritual.

Christian then throws a handful of salt at Gretchen who finally brings up the demon who likes to do gymnastics and play with lights.

In the midst of the hateful language, Gretchen is also present and laments what she did to her friends.

Christian gets desperate to get rid of the demon and brings a bucket of boiling water. Abby stops him just in time. The demon takes the form of Christian's mother who tricks him.

Realizing the demon is too powerful, Christian flees.

Gretchen manages to untie herself and the girls get into a fight which ends with Abby stabbing Gretchen in the stomach.

Gretchen is taken to the spot where Abby thinks she encountered the demon. Instead of the exorcism rites, Abby tries Gretchen to remember the good times they had so that the demon wouldn’t think Gretchen was friendless.

The demon can't take the boring teen stories and drama anymore and makes Gretchen vomit him out.

The demon comes to attack them saying "mine" over and over. Gretchen stabs him with a bottle but Abby has the ingenious idea to spit alcohol at him and use the lighter.

The demon burns.

The friends are saved!

In the end, Gretchen is moving away and Abby comes to see her.

They say LYLAS and giggle.

Happy Ending!

Clearly, Margaret and Glee wanted nothing to do with Gretchen after she tried to kill them when she was possessed.

Okay, fair enough.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence.
