Fall- My take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot: Two friends climb a 2000-foot radio tower only to find themselves stranded there.

You know that feeling you get when you go up and then suddenly down a hill? That weird sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach that almost feels ticklish too?

If you want to experience that feeling without sitting on a ride, watch the FALL.

You will never want to go climbing again.

FALL is one of those rare movies where the acting in great, the story is engrossing, the thrills keep you on the edge of your seat, and the cinematography is just fantastic. Kudos to director Scott Mann for being able to accomplish such a feat.

There's something unsettling about the FALL that refuses to leave you long after the movie is over. After that, just peeking at the poster is enough to make you feel dizzy.

FALL Movie Plot

Becky, Hunter and Dan are climbing a mountain and having fun. Dan is Becky's husband and when she almost loses her footing, he helps her and encourages her to keep going. Hunter makes fun of Dan but he barely glances at her.

Suddenly, Dan loses his footing and his cable snaps. Despite her attempts Becky is unable to save her husband from falling to his death.

Cut to 51 weeks later (not eleven months later or 357 days later), Becky is at a bar getting smashed. She is clearly depressed and when she leaves the bar, her father James (Jeffrey Dean Morgan in a three scene role) comes to admonish her and then make things worse by telling her Dan was not worth her time.

He tells her that had she been the one who had died, Dan would have moved on quickly.

Now that was a terrible thing to say to his grieving daughter but James says it anyway. Becky does what anyone would do, she storms off...staggers off. She's still somewhat drunk but has the sense to not drive.

At home, she gets a call from Hunter and doesn’t pick up. Hunter decides to show up at her door.

She is also smiles and spark as she asks Becky to join her for a climb. That should put her back in the mood.

Becky mopes and Hunter reminds her she can takw Dan's ashes with her and scatter them as a way to respect him.

Becky is still in the NO zone but Hunter reminds her of what Dan used to say about living life and facing fears and the usual uplifting stuff.

Becky ponders and then in the morning agrees to Hunter's plan.

Now Becky had agreed to the plan. It was not a last minute plan. She had time to prepare and was a climber. So...why didn't she bring her backpack?

Only Hunter is the one with the backpack that has a drone and charger, makeup, and a bottle of water. No energy bars. No nuts or fruit or anything else to eat.

It was going to be a usual climb for them that was going to take like an hour at the most so why bother with snacks or any bandages or first aid stuff?

Off they go and despite Becky telling Hunter she didn't want her to be part of her video, Hunter pulls her in, although promises her that it isn't live.

Off they go, but first they stop at a diner. The abandoned radio tower is a long way off and not on Google Maps. They ask the waitress who tells them they don't need Maps. Just take a look out the window. And all they see is a blinking red light so planes know to be careful.

Becky's phone runs out of battery and the waitress refuses to let her use an outlet to charge it. Hunter comes up with the idea to use the lamp beside their table to charge the phone. Basically, she removes the bulb and then places the charger into it. The phone begins to charge.

Lucky there were lamps there right.

At a diner. Of course the scene doesn’t seem random. They are going to need this hack later in the movie for sure.

In the morning, the besties drive towards the tower and then realize there's a gate that they will have to climb over to get to the tower and then walk a mile.

They do just that while Hunter records everything, even the dog being eaten by vultures. That should make for a good social media post. But oh no, the dog is sort of alive. The girls shoo off the vultures who give them a mean look saying, "one day we will get you".

The dog doesn’t have a chance to survive, poor thing.

Hunter gets instant likes and Becky remarks that her followers have macabre tastes and may be serial killers.

Hunter makes another video before climbing and Becky gets cold feet. She tells Hunter to go ahead. She didn’t bring a backpack for some reason, anyway.

Hunter gives Becky another pep talk and they finally get to climbing.

It takes them some time to climb and when Becky gets thirsty, they stop and we realize, if we hadn't before that there is only one backpack between them. And one water bottle. They were clearly overconfident that the climb and the descent wouldn't last long enough for either of them to be hungry or thirsty. No suntan lotion either.

Hunter remarks about being at the same height as the Eiffel Tower before they resume climbing.

The next part of the tower has a rusty ladder and in between shots we see the screws coming lose under their weight.

At one point Hunter even shakes the ladder a bit causing Becky to yelp. So just in case the ladder could still support some weight, Hunter's antics causes it to become a little more lose.

Considering that the tower wasn’t in Maps, was there also no articles on the tower online? If a tower was abandoned, perhaps many years ago, chances were good nobody was maintaining it either so what made the two women think it was a good idea to scale it? Didn’t they consider the ladder might not even be there.

Imagine climbing all the way up and the last few feet has no ladder.

Luckily, the ladder is still intact though and the women finally make it to the top. Selfies are taken, videos are made, Hunter dangles off the platform, and then makes Becky do it too.

Since Becky is still a bit afraid, Hunter holds onto her with one hand while taking a selfie with the other. Her hands is about to slip but at the last minute she is able to pull Becky up.

Thankfully the women are experienced climbers and have strong arms. Hunter especially since she has still been climbing. Since Becky hadn't for a year, it is understandable when she is nervous about the climb and asks for Hunter's help.

Becky scatters Dan's ashes after giving a poignant speech that makes Hunter cry a little too hard.

Becky and Hunter have a moment before Becky admits she has wanted to pee for a long time.

They start on the descent and that is when the corroded ladder comes apart under Becky's weight.

Hunter manages to pull her up but at that moment the two friends have failed to notice that the entire ladder has come off and fallen down with a loud thud.

When a tree falls in a forest, does it make a sound? Only if there is someone to hear it.

The women laugh about Becky's close escape with plunging to her death. Becky then reminds her she still has to pee. As they look down, to their horror, they discover the ladder has been entirely ripped off. Below, several feet away, is the dish and guess what? Becky had dropped the bag on it.

Yes, right before they decided to go down, Becky took the bag for some reason even though Hunter had been carrying it and it was clearly hers.

Way below is the only intact portion of the tower but there is no way they can reach it.

Becky has a super panic attack but Hunter calms her down and reminds her that the ladder crashing down would have made enough noise for someone to hear it and call emergency services.

That is when they also notice that Becky has suffered an injury in her thigh.

She finally calms down and then Hunter helps her as Becky squats out to pee. No way would she allow pee on the platform they are going to have to sit on. They joke about thankfully not having to go number two.

Then they sit to wait. Hunter assures her that help should arrive any time soon.

Hours pass and it is clear no one is coming for help. They break open the Emergency box and binoculars and a flare gun.

But it is still light out and so they decide to use the flare gun later.

Hunter decides to send a message to her 60,000 followers. Sure, there is no signal up here but there was down there because Hunter's picture of the barely alive dog got likes.

She dangles down but the message doesn’t get sent. They are not far down yet.

She then pads up her shoe, remembering the egg drop challenge and then throws the shoe down. They hope the message gets sent but when no help arrives Becky makes a comment about Hunter's followers either not caring about her or that her phone was smashed while going down.

They use the binoculars and spot a man with a dog. To get his attention they throw their shoes. The man takes a look at the shoe, sees it is of no use to him because it is dirty and clearly a woman's sport shoe and not his size.

The women then spot a trailer and see they have beer and ribs. They get hungry and ration the water and consider eating the lip balm.

Eventually it is dark and the women use a flare gun to alert the people in the trailer.

Realizing that someone may be on top of the tower, the man with the dog also returns and together with his trailer pal, steal Hunter's car.

The women are distraught, never expecting that they people wouldn't be kind.

Becky has noticed Hunter's tattoo 1-4-3 and frowns.

At night she has watched videos of her and Dan's wedding too, not caring that her phone battery might drain. She notices Hunter sulking in the video.

She confronts Hunter and she admits that Dan and her had a four month affair but that she broke it off because she loves Becky more. But yes, she was devastated when Dan died and that is why she had avoided her friend.

The hot sun reminds them that they haven't had anything to drink since their water is in the backpack that is stuck on top of the dish. Hunter offers to go down and retrieve it. Becky doesn’t think it is a good idea. Hunter is already doing it and tells her that if she is lucky, she will fall.

Becky just tells her to be careful.

Hunter goes out of her way to grab the backpack. It is a heart in your mouth kind of moment. Realizing the rope isn’t long enough, Hunter jumps atop the dish. She is confident that while the ladder was corroded and completely crashed, the dish would be able to take her weight.

For a moment, when it creaks you feel like it will fall. It doesn't. Phew. She grabs the backpack and realizes then that the rope is a bit far from her reach. Becky makes no attempt to swing it to her or help in any way.

Hunter manages to grab the rope with the backpack hook and then she tries to make a jump for the backpack. If you haven't sat on the edge of the seat by now, you will.

Hunter clearly doesn’t fear heights at all as she jumps sideways to grab the backpack. She climbs the rope and Becky helps by pulling.

But just then Hunter loses her footing and the rope slips from Becky's finger. She is certain that Hunter has fallen down and cannot bear to look down. When she forces herself to, Hunter is fine but her hands are injured and Becky has to do all the heavy lifting.

Once Hunter and the backpack are safe, they decide to use the drone to send a message. Hunter declines another drink of water as they need to ration it.

The drone runs out of battery and Becky doesn’t risk attaching her phone instead to send the drone down to get a signal.

They retrieve the drone and wonder how to charge it. Remember the lamp conveniently placed in the diner? The hack Hunter taught her? But it is up to Becky to climb the pole up to the red blinking light and remove the bulb.

But first, Becky has a nightmare of vultures feeding on Hunter. She freaks out and finds Hunter awake and watching her. Considering how last night Becky almost fell off, thankfully Hunter was there to keep watch at night.

In the morning, Becky climbs the pole, stays steady holding the drone as it charges. To give the charger proper support, she uses her wedding ring.

She also has to ward off vultures and finally when it charges, she gets down and navigates the drone towards the diner.

It is about to reach the diner just as  the battery starts to run out. They are almost there, just a few more...and crash!

It's a truck.

Right before the friends were leaving for their trip, they almost got hit by a truck. Foreshadowing about their poor drone?

Anyway, Becky looks dejected while Hunter says nothing. In fact, Hunter doesn’t look as dehydrated and sun-burnt as Becky does.

Hmm...

Desperate Becky comes up with a plan to throw her phone. She needs Hunter's shoe since she threw both of hers to get the attention of the man who turned into a thief.

Hunter tells her she cannot do that. Because she's not really there. Becky is horrified to discover the grim truth.

Hunter never made it back up. She had falled down on the dish and died. The dream she had of vultures feeding on Hunter was probably a glimpse she had of Hunter actually being fed on.

The vultures were probably pissed off the women had stopped them from feeding on the dog. They wanted revenge and so have been circling them, waiting until they are injured.

Becky loses hope even as Hunter the hallucination advises her to eat and drink for energy.

FALL Ending Explained with Spoilers

Becky has given up and a vulture comes over to feed on her leg wound.

But oh no, it's a trap. The vulture doesn't get to win this round and he should have brought his friend. Becky snaps its neck and blood splatters everywhere. She feeds on the vulture.

The next morning, the platform is clean. Becky used the feathers for cleaning.

She climbs down on the dish and gives a mournful speech for her friend before stealing her shoe, stuffing her phone in it after sending a message to her dad. Thankfully, her phone is still charged. Maybe she charged it up on the pole?

Anyway, she then stuffs the shoe inside Hunter's body. The friend of the vulture Becky had ruthlessly murdered was skittish when he saw her and flew away. He did make a sizable hole in Hunter for Becky to stuff Hunter's shoe in it.

She then throws Hunter off the tower.

We hear the dish creak. Uh oh...

James hurries off to the tower. It is night and a helicopter and police cars and ambulances are already there.

He sees the medics zip up a body bag and expects the worst.

That's when Becky calls out to him. She's safe! Phew!

In a voice-over, Becky talks about how life is short and we must do anything that makes us feel alive.

The question is, would she be able to climb now considering she lost both her husband and best friend in accidents?

Maybe.

The movie ends and we can all finally relax.

FALL is highly recommended. Don't go looking for faults and you will enjoy this experience. It is akin to sitting on a roller coaster.
