Apostle— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: Thomas puts his life in danger by going to an island to search for his sister. Once there, he becomes tangled with a cult.

Often situations arise which question the morality of the people involved.
Supposing you encounter an injustice happening to someone, do you prefer the role of an impassive bystander or an enraged participant?

Of course, if you do get involved, there is a risk involved with facing the brunt of the consequences. The attacker will come after you and hurt you.
Such is the dilemma raised in Apostle.

APOSTLE Movie Plot

The story is about a man, braving rough seas and dangerous people to search for his sister who was taken by a group of islanders.
The islanders in questions are members of a cult who have disavowed known religion in favour of the bizarre belief of a woman of the island.

The three men who have spread this belief state that after they rejected the gods, they were imprisoned. After escaping prison in a boat, they claim to lose their lives if it wasn't for the statue of a woman erected on the shores of the island known as Erisden.

Now whether or not they have revealed to the islanders that they have chained the woman and forcefully feed her blood, is not exactly clarified.
Thomas, the man in search of his sister, plays it safe and knowing he would be searched for, exchanges his ticket with another passenger. At this point, he knows the islanders are searching for ransom.
Once on the island, the passenger is taken away. Thomas looks on and remains quiet.

The next day, he finds him slaughtered? Why? Because the three men realize the passenger isn't the real brother of their captive.
Now, why had they abducted the sister? Because they think her father will pay a great ransom and they desperately need the money to survive. Turns out, the island is in bad shape. Crops are ridden with impurities, the livestock has stopped breeding. Soon, they will be without food.

Thomas in the meantime finds allies in Andrea and Jeremy: offsprings of the two of the Father's who have initiated a new kind of religion.
In order to draw out the kin of the kidnapped girl, the three men bring her out in the open and have the kids of the village poke her with sticks.

Still, Thomas holds on to his silence.

Perhaps he knows he isn't safe and that revealing his true self will get him and his sister killed.
Nevertheless, he ventures out the next night during a festival that threatens to decimate the livestock.
In the meantime, Jeremy has gotten Ffion pregnant, the daughter of the third Father. He's furious and kills his daughter in a fit of rage. Jeremy finds out and attacks him to which the Father proclaims to the village that it is the boy who has killed his daughter.

APOSTLE Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Thomas comes face to face with the old woman of the village and is astounded to see the ritual performed on her wherein she's fed blood through a funnel, forcefully.
There's also a weird, lanky masked creature who is violent. When the woman is fed, flowers begin to bloom.

Jeremy is found and killed in a difficult-to-watch torturous scene. The Fathers turn on each other. The whole village goes in panic mode.
Thomas is almost assassinated but saves himself.

He finds the woman who presses her hands against his head and he learns how she came to be bound in chains.
He pushes away and sets fire to her which spreads everywhere. He frees his sister and Andrea held captive by Ffion's father who wants to be the sole ruler and wants to use the girls as concubines.
The people begin to evacuate in boats.

As Thomas kills the man holding his sister captive, he is stabbed as well. After losing a lot of blood, he collapses before he reaches the docks. He extracts a promise from his sister to be his light and leave him.

The two women reluctantly leave him. The only living Father comes over to watch people leaving in boats and heading to the ship.
On the other hand, Thomas is quickly being consumed by the earth. Around him, flowers begin to bloom.

This movie made me question how quickly people can be swayed by false words to the point that they can watch someone being tortured in front of their eyes.
Of the whole story, that scene, the helplessness of Jeremy, the people turning away, the craziness of the father to hurt the one who impregnated his daughter, all those scenes make you cringe.

However, a nice, gory tale with a supernatural twist.

Scare scale: 3.5/5

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
