The Possession Of Hannah Grace— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Megan starts a new job at the mortuary, she finds that one of the corpses is possessed by something evil.

The more horror movies I watch, the more I've begun to analyze the different components that make a story work and watchable.
Special effects are not necessary to the story, the characters must make you want to sympathize with them, the story must have pace, and especially in a horror movie, there must be a small element, at least, of suspense.

As a viewer, I want to guess what will happen in the end, and also feel a little jumpy as I watch the film.
Basically, the scenes have to be unpredictable and scary.
In some ways, The possession of Hannah Grace reminded me of The Autopsy of Jane Doe, a movie that genuinely scared me mostly because of the way the mystery of the corpse was unravelled.

Every time the tiny bell rang, I had chills and when the mystery was revealed, my mind was blown because I never guessed the reveal.
Because of this, I was really excited to see The Possession of Hannah Grace, because I expected it to be just as thrilling as The Autopsy of Jane Doe.

I was wrong.

It is another case of keeping your expectations too high and ending up with disappointment.
The problem wasn't the story or the direction, or special effects or the (mostly) bland acting, it was the fact that as soon as the character, Megan, is introduced and shown around the mortuary, the blueprint of the movie is also given away.

As her supervisor explains the sensors and the automated doors, it's like he already tells the viewer what scenes to expect and we are right. Those scenes occur exactly as we imagined which takes away the suspense of the film.

THE POSSESSION OF HANNAH GRACE Movie Plot

The story is about a young woman Hannah Grace who is possessed by a demon, and undergoing an exorcism. The demon is too powerful and kills one of the priests. Hannah's father decides to smother his daughter when he realizes he has no other choice.
Three months later, Megan is starting a new job at the mortuary after suffering a breakdown when she was a cop and failed to shoot a criminal who killed her partner. Overwhelmed with the guilt she begins taking drugs though she is on the mend and wants to start life anew.

She lands this job because of a colleague who works there. The poor woman barely gets a few scenes and is killed later on the terrace. No one asks where she is, not even Megan who knew the demon was rampant and her friend could be trapped at the hospital as well.

Anyway, as Megan is working the graveyard shift, a man arrives at the door and asks to be let in. She declines, and later when the ambulance arrives with a body, he slips in without Megan realizing.
Megan finds a contorted corpse of a woman and we understand it is Hannah's body.

Weird things begin happening, people start getting killed, the man steals the body and tries to incinerate it but is stopped by Megan.
Megan uses her cop ex-boyfriend to get to the bottom of the mystery and also finds Hannah's body rapidly healing as more people die.

THE POSSESSION OF HANNAH GRACE Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Now convinced that the body is possessed, she helps the father who unfortunately is burned before he could kill Hannah.
In the climax, Megan finally shoots at Hannah, killing her while at the same time overcoming her fear of guns.
She burns Hannah and we think it is all over.
Or is it?

As time passes, Megan is sober now though we catch a glimpse of blue in her eyes.
Apparently, if your eyes turn blue, you are possessed by great evil.

This movie could have been scarier, given the premise and the atmosphere created, had the story plan not already been given away. At no point will you find yourself being surprised by the demon who attacks or wanders the area.

Oh there are sensors in the passage, yeah, a trespasser or a demon is totally going to pass by and the lights will flicker.
Think that and you will be right.

For a horror movie, with an interesting concept, it was rather bland.

Scare scale: 2.5/5
