Mercy Black— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After Marina is released from an institution and comes to stay with her sister, she finds her nephew has become obsessed with the supernatural entity Mercy Black who is desperate to come to life.

When you create a monster, do you also become one? I mean, you have the capacity to instil evil into something you have created, and even if you weren't someone who held bad intentions for anyone, after creating something nefarious, wouldn't you become your own creation? After all, you've spent so much time in your mind: conceiving, building, innovating. It takes a toll on your mind, breaking your sanity sometimes. Perhaps this is what happens to the three girls in Mercy Black.

MERCY BLACK Movie Plot

The story begins with scene flashes of two girls in the woods, screaming. Cut to fifteen years later, and Marina is being released from the mental rehab centre, although she isn't very keen to be out. Her sister comes to pick her up and she has a young son. Her sister does whatever to protect her son from the real world. She tells him his father has gone on a mission, and her aunt was at art school. She's dating a weirdo called Will who is great with the son but has a weird fascination for killers. He keeps prodding Marina for details on the childhood incident and reveals that many have tried to copy her MO and killed in the name of Mercy Black.

Mercy Black, apparently is something like the creepy legend Slender Man. She takes away your pain, but you must give her flesh in return, which she collects to come to life. Marija deftly defers his questions, but Will is too insistent. It isn't long before he presses too hard, asking her to tell her story so she can make money. Marina freaks out and hurts him. Will lashes out at Marina with cruel words, and Marina's sister dumps him. Meanwhile, the librarian at Bryce's (Marina's sister, Alice's son) school, helps him delve more into his aunt's past and he learns about the murder.

Of course, now we know that the librarian does it on purpose. Because here's the thing, Marina and her best friend Rebecca were accused of killing Lily. It makes the front page in the newspapers and the girls are sent to the mental institution. Bryce starts to develop a fascination for Mecy Black and in one instance, designs a terrifying trap for his irritating friend who arrives uninvited every time. At this point, we start to believe Mercy Black is real, especially after she kills Will, and possesses Bryce.

Mercy Black makes an appearance at home and Alice falls down the stairs. Eager to get to the bottom of this matter, Marina enters a secret cellar/ shelter in the forest after a now grown-up Rebecca, can't help her due to her own delusions. There, she finds fairy lights, a sort of shrine to Mercy Black, and her childhood memories come rushing back. Rebecca was one crazy, yet oddly creative girl who made up the tale of Mercy Black. Marina, whose mother was sick, was desperate for any sort of intervention, magical or otherwise, that would help her mother recover.

A third friend, Lily, was even crazier. She volunteers to be the sacrifice and barely flinched when Rebecca cuts off her finger. Marina sure was in some really bad company. Like seriously, be careful who you choose as friends. Lily is dragged to the lake, the other girls enter the lake and Rebecca creepily states the arrival of Mercy Black. Another thing Marina remembers, is that they used their own personal items to create Mercy Black, and even painted a mask for her. Be ready for some plot holes.

MERCY BLACK Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Back to the story, Mercy Black makes an appearance after Marina finds Bryce growing obsessed with the legend. She finds Lily who is none other than the librarian who has been corrupting Bryce. Lily is still crazy and wants to die and doesn't put up much of a fight. But now, guess what, Mercy Black is real. In the ensuing fight, Bryce stabs Lily in the eye, and in the end, we see Mercy Black has gained the eye.

Soon, she'll be all flesh and blood. Now here's the thing, just how we're the girls charged for their 'heinous crime' if Lily's body was never found? Was Mercy Black's costume found by the police which is the reason why she went viral and people grew obsessed with it? So basically, Lily falls off the grid, creates a new identity, and a school hires her without as much of a proper background check? These issues in the story couldn't be overlooked and therefore, didn't neatly wrap up the story. The story needed to be tightened and the horror scenes needed a bit of tweaking to create a tense and frightening atmosphere. The legend seemed creepy, but the execution was disappointing.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
