Trick-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A serial killer known as Trick, terrorizes a small town. His name is a possible clue as to what is exactly going on.

As soon as a movie begins with a definition card, my first thought is, what a display of pompous nonsense.
I actually feel the makers are trying too hard to seem smart and looking down upon their audience by explaining to them what their movie is about.
Because on their own, no one is going to understand the storyline.

Many such movies have failed to deliver a good viewing experience.

Trick, however, is a pleasant surprise.

This time, when the definition comes in, its sole purpose isn’t to provide knowledge but to deliver a hint.

TRICK Movie Plot

The movie begins with a group of high school kids at a Halloween party. They are all in costumes, playing spin the knife instead of spin the bottle.

There is a guy dressed in black, wearing a jack o lantern mask. When the knife points at him, he’s cheered on and called Trick. He beckons the boy sitting across from him, then stabs him before anyone can blink. From there on, he starts attacking the other kids.

Before more people can be attacked, Cheryl calls Trick from behind and stabs him with a fireplace poker.

Trick is wounded but not dead. At the hospital, the sheriffs are investigating while Cheryl goes to see if her friend Nicki is okay.

Trick still has paint on his face so his features are not identified. As the detective interrogates him, Trick frees himself from the cuffs, tilts the bed and makes the detective fall. Trick goes on a killing spree at the hospital. He catches Cheryl but she headbutts him and the cops get a good shot. They shoot him thrice after which he falls three stories down from the hospital.

The detective and sheriff rush down but Trick is nowhere to be found. All we can see is blood on the ambulance van. The sheriff concludes that Trick jumped into the freezing river and is dead.

There’s no way someone can survive a stab wound, three shots, and falling off a building, right?

Wrong.

That’s the Trick in this movie. People are stabbed multiple times but they still survive.

As the investigation proceeds, the detectives are puzzled by the fact that no one knows what Patrick Weaver, aka Trick looked like or where his family and he lived.

The next year on Halloween, Trick’s escapades have made him a popular symbol of horror. He’s garnered a lot of fans. Meanwhile, at another Halloween party, more people are stabbed.

Detective Mike Denver is on the case, but he’s the only one who thinks Trick is alive and doing this.

The next year on Halloween, the Detective and the other agents are discussing the case at the bar. The bartender does a trick and offers to buy them drinks.

In the bathroom, one of the agents is attacked and taken outside. When the other agent receives a text, she takes Denver outside and they find the agent strapped to a chair with a cord around his neck. One wrong move and his head will be severed.

We’re barely halfway through the movie, and not in 2019 yet, so Detective Denver is bound to fail. He does. The detective’s head is cut off while the other agent is stabbed as she calls for help.

The next year, Trick foils Detective Denver again.

Finally, it’s 2019. The sheriff is still not convinced Trick is alive. Cheryl’s father was in an accident and is now paralyzed. The doctor informs her the insurance won’t lay anymore but she doesn’t let her hopes down.

Detective Denver is still on the case and dumbfounded by the lack of details about who Trick really is.

An agent on the case in the town is led to the shipping docks and is killed with the headstone of an agent that died while working on this case.

Detective Denver knows he’s being mocked for his inability to catch Trick.
What he doesn’t realize is that Trick is actually using him to keep his legend alive which is why he isn’t killed by Trick immediately.

It’s Halloween and the police have only a small group to keep the residents safe.
Trick attacks Nicki in the maze and Cheryl is barely saved from being stabbed by her friend’s son.

At the church, a screening of a horror movie has called upon a few people and the priest has taken on the duty to keep them safe by harnessing a shotgun.

Unfortunately, Trick kills him, cuts the sheriff, and runs away. Denver thinks he is looking for Troy as he has claimed to stab Trick years ago. He finally confesses it was Cheryl and she was so shocked he had been happy to take credit for the hero who stopped Trick.

Denver rushes to the hospital where Cheryl is there talking to her sleeping father. Soon she realizes her father has been killed when she goes up to kiss him.

TRICK Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Trick captures her and brings her to the basement where he has the sheriff and the detective subdued.

Cheryl once again deceives him and they manage to free themself. Denver takes Trick and jumps out the window.

He unmasks Trick and realizes it is Troy’s friend Johnny.

A van pulls up and more people in Trick’s costumes come out. They take Johnny inside and it is revealed that Trick is not one person but many, to fool people into believing they were dealing with something supernatural.

Now you see me...

The bartender was on it, the ambulance driver and one of the deputies as well. One by one they stab Denver. He should be dead right? Probably from the fall or from bleeding out.

But nope.

A man in a wheelchair approaches Denver and he recognizes him as the kid who had started it all. Patrick Weaver. He was paralyzed after the fall and explains how he enjoys being called a legend.

Cheryl comes running to Denver and Patrick is trying to make a getaway as the police arrive. Cheryl asks Patrick if he saw where Trick is and accidentally pulls up his shirt and sees the stab wound from the iron poker. She gets a hunch about what is going on and confronts Patrick in the hospital as he gets busy deleting the security tapes.

She gets in and stabs him, realizing the Trick she had seen in the maze was running around and therefore he must have several aides.

She goes to the sheriff who is being treated by the doctor and explains what is going on. The sheriff sees face paint on the deputy and they kill him.

The doctor picks up the mask.

Sometime later, Cheryl joins the sheriff and Denver to hunt down more Tricks.

Meanwhile, the other Tricks are hoping their crew will grow and wait for their aide. It is none other than the doctor.

So...sequel?

This was no doubt an interesting horror movie, with plenty of surprising moments. And of course, the twist was well executed. It definitely did justice to the title.

The only thing that didn’t make sense were certain characters surviving after losing copious amount of blood.

Apart from that, it’s a fun, gripping movie.

Scare scale: 4/5

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
