Happy New Year! Horror Movies 2020

The year 2019 delivered some pretty exciting and spooky horror movies.

Yes, some so-called “most awaited” movies turned out to be almost comical and cliched. Luckily there were low budget movies with interesting twists and and spooky atmosphere to work.

As they say, never judge a book by is cover and never judge a movie by its budget.

2020 has an interesting line-up. Some are sequels, others based on best selling novels.

I’m still disappointed that no one is thinking of rebooting Ghost Ship. I still remember how terrified I was when I first watched it. The scene with the girl dancing with the captain, only for everyone on board to have their heads cut off...still gives me chills.

Maybe someone will surprise me this year with a story inspired by it at least?

Let’s see...

Here are some of the movies I’m looking forward to this year:

  1. Brahms: The Boy 2— The first part had a very surprising twist. Spoiler alert: the boy doll a woman was hired to take care of, was seemingly possessed. But the wasn’t. The real Brahms wasn’t a spirit trapped in the doll, but a psycho who dwelled behind walls in the mansion. He was “killed” by the caretaker but like any cliched horror movie, he wasn’t.
Wonder what he’ll be up to in the sequel. Now that the secret is out, what surprises will be in store? Because the only reason The Boy worked was because of that awesome twist.
  1. The Conjuring (3): The Devil made me do it— I really hope these movies lee getting made. Yes, the second part wasn’t as good as its predecessor, but how good was the first one?
It was the only movie that gave me the shivers as I watched it. The clap game, the leg tugging in the middle of the night.
So creepy and nightmare inducing.
The third part is another case the Warrens will have to tackle. Hoping it is super scary.

  1. The Grudge: Yes! A reboot! The original movie didn’t manage to scare me, but it had all the right elements to make anyone jump. Especially the crackling throat sound...
The thing about this movie is that the Scary Movie franchise has ruined the horror elements of the movie for me. If the reboot includes any scene from the original and I remember seeing it in the parody, I just might end up laughing rather than hiding under the covers.
Still, can’t wait to find out what it’s about.

  1. Fantasy Island— Imagine if all your fantasies can come true. Even the not so moral ones. And especially the revenge ones. Would that terrify you or satisfy you?
The guests invited to the Fantasy Island have their moral compass tested. But it all probably comes at a price, right?
Interesting concept, and since I’m a fan of Lucy Hale, I’ll be watching it.

  1. Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship—
Could this be inspired by the Ghost Ship? The name is similar and there is going to be a Haunted Ship involved. So far there aren’t too many details available so no idea if this will be like the Ghost Ship or not. The teaser does look promising.

Movies I have no interest in watching but may still end up watching:

  1. A Quiet Place: Part 2— Somehow I couldn't get into the first part. The monster attacks you if you make a sound? What doesn't make a sound? Who are these monsters? Aliens?
The premise had potential if you think about it. Imagine never being able to make a sound. But with this limitation, comes a myriad of issues leading to plot holes. A lot of things don't  make sense eventually, and the movie fails to impress.
I'm really hoping the second part explains a few questions left unanswered in the first and actually makes you care enough about the characters to the point your are frightened for their safety.

  1. Halloween Kills— I've never been a fan of the Halloween movies. Yes, mostly because of the fact that the background music always gives away Michael's appearance.
This slasher horror is just plain ridiculous and you find yourself barely caring for the victims. Most importantly, every installment should include a short recap. Only true fans will remember every detail of the franchise. Why is Michael trying to kill Laurie? Hopefully, the new part will offer a small portion where they explain what is going on rather than rehashing it in an absurd manner. And hopefully, the other characters will be interesting as well.

Happy New Year! Here's hoping this year is filled with great, scary movies and not duds.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
