Body Cam-- My take on the movie with spoilers!
Plot Summary: A cop discovers that a video showing the truth behind her colleague's death, plays only for her. It is up to her to solve the mystery.
It’s hard to imagine a time when there was no law enforcement keeping our city safe. No one patrolling the streets at night, and when a crime was committed, no police officers chasing the criminal.
It has become one of those things which we take for granted. We do lock our doors at night, but also don’t live in constant fear of being attacked because there are people out there who have vowed to serve and protect us.
The biggest betrayal is when the people we thought are going to protect us, end up hurting us. Fortunately, these corrupt police officers are few.
Still, when there’s a horror movie about police officers, the fear isn’t about the ghosts that are chasing them, but in watching them hurt an incident, because hey, how could they do that? They’re supposed to be protecting us at all costs.
Body Cam Movie Plot
In the first scene, we meet an officer who is going about his usual routine of patrolling. He goes into a diner to get a coffee but is met with hostility from the servers and other patrons. On the TV there’s a news report going on about riots in the city.
The officer is given his coffee but no one wants his blood money. The officer goes on about his way, and we see that he has his dashcam and bodycam on as he approaches a stopped vehicle on the road. He orders the woman to come out who is wearing a green hooded parka.
In the next instant, the officer is heard yelling and then being thrown upwards.
12 hours earlier, we meet Renee, an officer who was suspended for a couple of months. She had lost her son a couple of months ago and then lashed out at a criminal who had instigated her with racial slurs.
She’s returning to duty because the sergeant has a soft corner for her. However, she’s paired with a rookie cop, Danny. Everyone is happy to have her back, but Renee isn’t too pleased with having Danny as her partner.
She drives around with him and finds a kid playing on the street. She turns on her bodycam before approaching him and is instantly subjected to harassment from the neighbours who don’t have a good opinion about cops. Renee calms them down and goes back to the car with Danny lauding her ability to placate a hostile crowd.
Renee seems to understand why everyone is hostile.
They drive further on and stop in the middle of nowhere to investigate a strange occurrence. Renee is still in her car when the laptop comes to life and shows her what happens to the officer we met in the first scene and who was also a dear friend to Renee. She sees the woman and then the officer being flung upward and then down on the hood of the car. The video then disappears.
Danny comes back as Renee seems troubled by what she saw. They check their surroundings and find a bloodied body hanging. It’s of that officer she just saw.
More cops are called and when the sergeant arrives he tells her that the officer’s dashcam and bodycam were fried and there was no recording on them even as Renee maintains she saw the woman who did this.
No one believes her and Renee goes home to dream about her son drowning. She wakes up and decides to watch videos of her son. He was born in a hospital with the same icon as she remembers seeing on the green parka wearing woman who allegedly killed her colleague.
She investigates further and realizes the woman is a nurse at the hospital and recently lost her son.
The next night, a store is being robbed and the police arrive to catch the criminals. The woman in the green hooded parka is there too and soon, a strange shadow appears and starts killing everyone. Including the cops.
Renee receives a message and heads out to the store to find everyone dead. She goes to check the security cameras and sees what really happened only for the video to disappear when Danny comes to see it.
Renee knows no one believes her so steals one of the criminal’s phones as he was recording the robbery. Danny is against her hiding evidence, but she doesn’t care. She needs to know what is going on.
The next day she heads to the mortuary and using her connections, goes to see the dead bodies. The phone apparently opens with a fingerprint.
She gets inside and finds the video but can’t make sense of what is going on. She does more research on the nurse and decides to go find her.
At her dilapidated house, Renee finds pictures of her and the cops. She also finds the dead boy’s picture with squiggly black likes drawn over him like flames. Renee is almost attacked by a shadowy figure but escapes just in time.
She meets with the priest at a church where the boy used to go and learns he was actively involved in community services despite being deaf.
Body Cam Ending Explained
Renee calls up Danny for help in finding the nurse and discussing new clues, and he promises to be there within an hour to help. When he doesn’t turn up, Renee goes to his house and finds him dead in the shower. He has committed suicide and left behind a USB for Renee. Danny was afraid that Renee was close to the truth of what he too was involved in.
She watches it and now understands what happened.
All the cops who have died so far were involved in killing the nurse’s son who was mistakenly killed when he doesn’t respond to orders from the police. Turns out, the boy was deaf and was just doing some community service. The cops kill him mercilessly rather than admitting that they made a mistake.
Renee calls the sergeant to meet him and discuss the new clue she found.
Unfortunately, he brings along the corrupt officials involved in the killing of the boy.
Renee understands that he too is involved and it is confirmed when he holds her at gunpoint.
Fortunately for her, the nurse has appeared with the strange shadowy creature who kills off the officers. Justice has been served and Renee sees the boy with her son walking away while the nurse gives her a smile.
Renee is at peace now knowing her son is okay.
The movie had a compelling story, thwarted only by lackadaisical acting and...Renee’s eyelashes. The false eyelashes were so distracting.
The story was interesting though and relevant to current events, making it a decent viewing experience.
Scare scale: 2.5/5

Considering it's only at 2.5 I jumped when the officer fell down from the roof. I usually love movies like this but it was actually terrifying for me, can't lie I covered my eyes.
