The Haunting of Hill House: Episode One

We all have stories about the houses we’ve lived in since childhood. Something or the other has usually happened, whether it is a happy occasion or a sad one. Or it is about a window at an odd place in the house.

Maybe a balcony that was too narrow. Or an apartment without a balcony and the hassles faced with putting out clothes to dry. Perhaps one of the houses you lived in had a plumbing issue, an unexplained crack in the wall, a rat that lived in the last place you thought to look.

Something has always happened in a house that you’ve lived in, and that is why houses become parts of your soul.

This also why some people believe that your good or angry vibes are left behind with the house when you move.

Sure is fodder for tons of horror stories.

The Haunting Of Hill House is an exceptional story that does focus on the house; it is the haunting of Hill House after all. But it is more about the impact the haunting had on five kids and how it paved the road for the choices they made as an adult.

This thirteen episode series follows the lives of five siblings: Steven, Shirley, Theo, Luke and Nell.

Steven has become a popular author after he wrote his first hand experience living in Hill House. Each episode is interspersed with past sequences that show their parents Hugh and Olivia (Liv) buying a house to renovate so they can earn enough to build their Forever House.

But Hill House is no ordinary house. While the other siblings have encountered unexplained phenomena, Steven grows up to believe his mother suffered mental problems and what he saw the last night he was there, was just a figment of his childish imagination.

But that doesn’t stop him from writing a book and exaggerating the events that took place in the house, much to his siblings’ chagrin. He does offer them a cut of profits though.

Steven is looking for more stories on hauntings and meets with people who are ready to share and sell their stories to him. He manages to explain each of their incidents with careful analysis and logic.

His fans are disappointed that their stories won’t be used in his book, but he’s a sweet talker with a troubled life that includes a broken marriage.

He also has issues with his siblings and keeps rejecting his sister Nell’s calls.

When he returns home, he finds his brother Luke, who is supposed to be in rehab, stealing his electronics.

Nell is simply there, standing and watching.

Steven is complaining about her inadequacy to stop her twin brother when he receives a call from his father informing him that his sister Nell has committed suicide.

Steven is shocked because Nell is standing right before him...

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
