On Halloween-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: A journalist investigates a series of killings by an evil clown.

I’ve never understood why people fear clowns. My first encounter with them was at the circus. Honestly, I felt they were the most boring part of the circus. They had the same tricks, the same attempt at humour which included juggling with balls and dropping one on their heads. I was never impressed by that. My favourite part of the circus acts were the tightrope acrobats, the animals, and magic tricks.

The clowns were unfunny to me. Just people wearing bright, colourful clothes and a lot of makeup.

So I never understood why some people have Coulrophobia. And another reason why I didn’t find the IT clown scary.

Maybe it’s the makeup that people get scared of. What are they trying to hide? They’ve painted on smiles. Are they really smiling or have malicious intent? And anyone can put on makeup and roam around the streets without anyone suspecting they might be a criminal.

Or is it because clowns are so happy and laughing all the time. No one is ever that happy, are they? Is that what scares some people? “Normal people are simply not that chirpy. That clown must be mad!”

Whatever the reason, apparently a lot of people are scared of clowns and this fear has been used by movie makers to produce tons of movies based on evil clowns.

On Halloween is another movie about an evil clown and honestly an interesting enough concept to become a series. But as usual, the execution does not do justice and what we get to watch is a clunky horror movie and a missed opportunity to be great. I mean, an evil clown that injects others with a serum to turn them into monstrous clowns. Good idea, right?

ON HALLOWEEN Movie Plot

The story begins with a boy dressed up in a costume for Halloween when he and his family is attacked by a clown called Whaa who wants to turn him into a clown and call him Boo. His family is attacked as well and the boy doesn’t have an escape.

Years later, it is Halloween again at this point we get to see three stories happening at once. One is about three detectives who are at a crime scene when two of them receive an email about being chosen for a documentary on detectives. The third one is miffed he wasn’t picked and keeps trying to impress the producer.

The next story is about a group of friends who want to hunt down the evil clown that has haunted Century Park. They are absolutely certain they can catch the clown. It will be a fun activity for Halloween, right? Catching evil clowns?

The third story is about a reporter called Jordan who too is obsessed with the clown that has been seen around Century Park for decades. The clown has been spotted in two different locations at once piquing her curiosity and wanting to write only about clowns.

Her editor warns her to drop it because they are simply a tabloid but Jordan has done her research and manages to impress the editor with her knowledge of the clown.

It’s Halloween night and every single character is out in search of the clown. Why wait for the clown to come for them when they can go to him and get killed?

The usual scenes take place wherein the clown stalks the characters. Some of the characters don’t believe in the legend and the same old trick where the most enthusiastic one is the first to get killed. As a rule in horror movies, there’s always a final girl. Since there are only two women in this movie in pursuit of the clown, they survive.

ON HALLOWEEN Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Jordan is pregnant so she has to live but here comes the twist. The stories she has been investigating have been taken place in the past two years.

Two years ago it was the detectives who had been killed by the clown.

A year later, it was the twenty-something friends and the only survivor was Trish who is missing.

The stories that we thought were taking place in the present time were actually flashbacks.

Jordan is captured by Boo and learns there are other Boos because innocent people have been kidnapped and turned into them using blood from serum and some green elixir. Jordan too is about to be turned when she manages to escape and finds Whaa in a cell. He was the creator of Boos but he had been overpowered and held captive. She finds Trish too who is barely alive but Jordan makes an escape alone. She trips and falls and a Boo approaches her. It is none other than her husband who is still dressed in his chef uniform so that she can identify him easily. He asks her to join him and perhaps she does take the deal.

Maybe she will turn into Boo only once a year and the rest of the year be her normal self.

The story is being told by Jordan’s daughter Lilly who thinks her story is more terrifying than her playground friends’.

They make fun of her and think it isn’t true to which Lilly speaks in Boo’s voice scaring them off.

No more friends for Lilly. Then again she can just turn some kids into Boo and play with them.

What happens to Whaa and Trish, nobody knows. The legend of Boo lives on...

Scare scale: 2.5/5

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
