Cadaver-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: Following an apocalypse, a family attends a play not realizing they are a part of it.

The apocalypse is here.

The world is destroyed. There's no food and people are surviving by scraping the bottoms of tin foods.

KADAVER/CADAVER Movie Plot

We are introduced to a family consisting of Leonara, Jacob and their daughter Alice. The buildings are pretty much demolished all around the city. The camera filter is dull and bluish. We see newspaper articles reporting nuclear disaster on the front page.

Got to hand it over to the people running the newspapers. There was a nuclear disaster that destroyed the whole city yet a newspaper was printed pretty much regularly to report the catastrophe and the repercussions of it.

Leonara was an actress and keeps the poster of her last show nearby. She can survive without food but not her beloved poster.

The family seek shelter in perhaps the theatre where Leonara used to perform. They are trying to survive but Leonara is still not pleased eating tin food.

But that's when her prayer to eat another kind of food is heard. While walking on a street one day, a man in a tall hat and tuxedo announces a play to be held and not only that, dinner will be served as well.

Leonara immediately asks for the price of the tickets but we never get to know if the ticket prices were reasonable during the apocalypse or not.

In the next scene, the family is already heading to the theatre. The world outside is ruined but not the theatre where there are chandeliers and waiters dressed in clean uniforms. The greeter does raise some issue with Alice coming in, but the owner of the theatre, Mathias, in a charming demeanour allows Alice in.

Little Alice is awestruck and carries one expression throughout the movie, one of wonderment.  But it is a good expression, good enough for her to be immediately hired for the role because later she doesn't have much to do. So yes, that one scene where she must show utter amazement is all that is needed out of her as an actor.

The family is seated and they don't care much about the other people they are seated with. They begin to gobble their dinners with relish. It is only after the meal that they look across the table to introduce themselves and meet Katherine and Lars.

They have a daughter too and Jacob asks if they too faced resistance but the other couple simply gives each other curious looks.

Before more words can be said, Mathias makes a grand entry and announces that the play will be one of a kind. The actors will be roaming among them and playing their parts all around the theatre and it is up to the audience to decide which actor they want to follow. The audience can tell the difference between actors and civilians because of the masks they will have to wear. Yes, the audience will have to wear a mask rather than the actors.

The guests quickly put on their golden masks and the first thing Leonara does is mistaken another girl for her daughter. To make sure she doesn't lose Alice again, she grasps her hand and walks around.

The family follow down the corridor and see various rooms with several actors playing out their scenes but none interest them. They follow a woman called Rakel because she seems the most interesting and has her scenes with Mathias.

A scene is performed that appears to be a fight between husband and wife. Rakel leaves the room in a huff and Mathias glances at the family, paying attention particularly to Alice.

Upon Alice's insistence, they follow Rakel and then hear her talk about going into a room.

The family is eagerly searching for the room when Alice leaves her mother's hand to wander off. Jacob doesn't think it's a good idea for his daughter to wander about in a strange place but Leonara shrugs and tells her husband to let their daughter be a girl and wander about strange places. After all, they are living in a post-apocalyptic world. Alice apparently needs training in how to wander about in unknown places.

Of course Alice disappears and Leonara realizes that her plan to make her daughter independent has failed miserably. Jacob resists the urge to say I told you so. The couple remove their masks.

They run into Katherine and Lars, both of whom have removed their masks and are looking for their daughter as well.

They search high and low for their daughters and Leonara can't help but feel that something is off about Katherine and Lars.

KADAVER/CADAVER Ending Explained with Spoilers!

Soon enough the truth about what is really going on is revealed. Apparently, Mathias is charging people to come to the theatre, eat former audience members and then become the next meal.

This shouldn't have come as much surprise to Mathias' accomplices, Katherine and Lars included who are actors too, that they were being fed humans.

Where else was Mathias going to procure meat from? The world is pretty much destroyed yet the accomplices were innocent enough to believe the meat they were relishing and smacking their lips, was actually the audience members from the previous shows.

Were the guests too hungry to notice that the meat tasted different?

Mathias has kidnapped Alice because a long time ago, his daughter had died in the building and apparently he went nuts and bought the very same place his daughter died in just so he could lure families, eat some of them and kidnap their daughters. The reason he takes a shine to Alice is because she's the one who resembles his dead daughter the most.

Leonara goes almost crazy searching for her daughter and keeps hallucinating about her. She's caught and so is Jacob but they are given a proposal. Instead of being chopped up and made into a stew, they could join the play, become actors who can lure unsuspecting victims to the kitchen. Leonars refuses. Jacob doesn't want to be the next meal and accepts the proposal. As soon as he is released he tries to get Leonara released as well but is killed by Lars. Leonara does away with Lars and runs.

She is almost recaptured but pleads with the others to see Mathias for what he really is. His friends and fellow actors think she's pretending. Leonara decides to put up a show and make them all follow her to the kitchen where the next meal is being prepared. Everyone goes berserk when they realize what they have been eating and attack Mathias.

Leonara finds Alice who asks where her father is. Leonara doesn't want to tell her daughter that her parents were not the best at making decisions in times of stress. She takes her daughter away and goes back to the shambles that is her home.

She sees the destruction, the empty tins, and realizes that she can hold onto her morals and all but that is not going to feed her or her daughter.

Plus, she is an actress and she craves being able to perform once again. And the only show going on is at the theatre.

The movie had some interesting moments but what seemed implausible was that none of Mathias's accomplices knew that they were being fed human flesh. No one questioned where the abundance of food was coming in, enough for them and to lure other people on the outside.

And what was the plan anyway? The population had become less. Sooner or later, Mathias was going to run out of people to eat and feed his friends. Then what? Move to another city?

How much longer before he would have to begin cooking his employees?

Scare scale: 3/5

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
