TV shows to look forward to: I Know What You Did Last Summer

Do you remember what you did last summer? Did you go on vacation? Picked up a new hobby? Sat home and watched the news on the pandemic? Waited for the lockdown to end?

Followed celebrities on social media to see what they have been up to during the pandemic since they can’t shoot for their movies or TV shows properly.

Yes, last summer was probably boring and this summer has been somewhat on par with that. So let’s talk about autumn.

This autumn, a new TV show is coming out based on the popular novel and movie franchise, I Know What You Did Last Summer.

In case you’ve forgotten the story, it’s about a group of friends who cause an accident, cover it up and a whole year later, are threatened by an unknown killer. Apart from the original novel, there have been three Hollywood movies based on it and one Bollywood movie (Kucch To Hai) which was highly “inspired” by the theme.

And now there’s a TV show.

My first thought was, where have the original scripts gone? Is no one writing anything original anymore? Has the pandemic hindered creative minds in some way?

How is it that we see reboots and sequels rather than original stories? Yes, there were some awesome cult movies in the last few decades, but a decade from now, what are we going to write about this decade?

That originality had taken a back seat? That studios were too scared to invest in new stories and found it convenient to look into a box of successful movies and TV shows and reboot them with political agendas? Is that what modern stories have become?

I Know What You Did Last Summer has many executive producers, one of them being James Wan, so the series has to have some potential right?

Due to premiere on October 15th on Amazon Prime Video, the teaser, however, doesn’t hold much promise. As with most reboots nowadays, prominence is given to the characters’ preferences rather than focus on the thrilling, mystery part of the show.

The poster shows the characters faces with honey splattered on them. The teaser too shows a hive being slit open and honey dripping from it. Is the killer going to be an Apiarist? Is he going to send in bees to do the kills for him?

Hopefully, the trailer will throw more light into where the series will be headed because the teaser shows little promise of this being an entertaining mystery.

In the meantime, check out the movies and novel on which this TV show is inspired.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
