Censor(2021) -- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: Enid, a film censor, believes an actress of a horror movie she is working on, may be her long lost sister Nina.

I still remember the time when I told an acquaintance that I was interested in horror movies and stories. Her reaction was one of utter shock.

Then came the questions and statements, one after another, all of the reasons why horror movies shouldn't be watched and how they negatively affect the mind.

I simply listened to her POV and then told her how I treat horror stories as fiction and entertainment. Besides, I cannot stomach all horror movies anyway. I still steer clear away from movies that rely heavily on gore because usually, they compromise on storylines.

It's all about gratuitous nudity, copious blood splatters, and too many plot holes.

I sometimes wonder about the writer's imagination that comes up with such violent scenes in the first place. Had it not been for the censor boards, imagine the scenes that would have been passed.

And some of them have been passed like in the movies Hostel, I Spit on Your Grave, The Last House on the Left, and so on.

At the end of the day, the Censors decide what we can watch and maybe it's a good thing that they protect us from unnecessary violent scenes that do nothing for storytelling but do a lot to churn the stomach and vomit the popcorn.

CENSOR Movie Plot

Censor is about, well, a censor called Enid who I feel has the best job in the world. She watches movies, makes notes and has a say in which scenes need to be cut and which movie should even get a release.

But Enid has a painful past. Her sister Nina went missing in the woods when they were kids.

It's been years now and Enid is still haunted by that day and is affected by it, even more, when her parents invite her to dinner only to let her know they want closure and want Nina to be declared dead.

Enid reluctantly agrees but it is clear that the paper declaring her sister dead, is affecting her negatively.

It seems Enid is having a bad week or month because unfortunately, a murder takes place and the media blames it on the horror movies being passed by the Censors that is negatively impacting people's minds.

And as if that isn't enough on her plate, there's producer Doug who shamelessly flirts with her.

Enid is initially tasked with watching the movie 'Don't go in the Church' and that's when she discovers that the lead girl resembles her sister Nina a lot.

She wants to know who she is and gets an illegal video of a banned horror movie in which actress Alice Lee stars. She watches the movie, then goes to see her parents with the cover to get their opinion on whether the actress on the cover looks like Nina or not.

Her parents ask her to let the whole incident go but Enid is now more than ever determined that her sister is alive and is actress Alice Lee who works in horror movies.

She moves forward with the investigation and meets with Doug so that she can discover the whereabouts of Alice.

Doug makes a casual remark about Alice's shelf life being over which pisses Enid off.

Doug makes a move on her and Enid pushes him away, causing him to get speared by one of his awards. Enid is shocked but makes a polite remark about meeting him, and then leaves.

It's evident at this point that Enid has cracked under all her suppressed emotions.

She rushes to the set of the sequel to 'Don't go in the Church' and the makeup woman mistakes her for the lead actress.

Enid is now more than ever convinced that Alice is indeed Nina, because of the similarities.

Enid sees the man from the previous movie and imagines him to be Nina's kidnapper. Mid scene, she attacks the man whose only comment is that "it wasn't in the script". He's killed and Enid sees Alice is there too, freaking out after seeing a real-life murder.

Enid tries to tell her that Alice is actually her sister Nina. Alice screams that she already has a sister and that it is not her. Enid refuses to believe that and chases her into the woods.

This is when things begin to blur between reality and Enid's imagination.

CENSOR Ending Explained with Spoilers!

She imagines taking Nina back home to see her parents. Everything is perfect in Enid's imagination, including rainbows everywhere. The radio reports zero crime in the UK. Everyone is behaving properly. Her parents are elated to have Nina back home.

But in between things sort of blur with the truth wherein Alice runs to Enid's parents and screams for help while Enid's parents are shocked to find their daughter has turned into a killer.

Enid turns around and smiles at us, and it is obvious she has lost her marbles.

Considering the way things go, perhaps Enid killed her sister when they were kids and it may be that repressed guilt that manifests into murderous tendencies.

Or perhaps all the violent horror movies Enid had to watch in order to see where cuts needed to make, affected her more than she realized. The violence must have penetrated her mind and caused her to act brutally towards the end.

In that case, it would seem that the filmmakers agree with those groups of people who believe horror movies cause violence.

If only there was more clarity regarding the last scene...

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
