According to folklore, werewolves are actually humans with the ability to shapeshift into wolves especially on a full moon night.
It is said that when someone does something bad or hurtful or has consumed wolf meat mixed with human flesh, then a werewolf is created. That person is cursed into involuntarily turning into a werewolf on a full moon night, and the condition is irreversible. The person, once in werewolf form, has no control over its transformation or its behavior which becomes violent.
Wolfsbane is supposed to help ward off werewolves. Another plant that is thought to repel werewolves is Silver Wormwood.
I would imagine werewolf movies are tricky to make considering the special effects and make-up that has to be used.
If I have to think about a "transformation" movie made in Bollywood, then it would have to be Junoon, a 1992 film where the protagonist goes on a hunting trip, is advised to stay away from a cursed tiger roaming the area, and of course, still goes ahead and disobey every warning. He is cursed with turning into a tiger every night and with it comes the passion and the surge of violence within him.
The movie was successful, yet for some reason, it didn't encourage a lot of filmmakers to make more creature feature films.
But now we have one, a werewolf movie although the creators believe it isn't a werewolf story. With a title such as Bhediya, meaning wolf, one has to wonder.
Also, the plot states that Varun Dhawan will play a man who turns into a werewolf every full moon night. The movie is supposed to have comedy elements and also stars Kriti Sanon.
Hopefully, a trailer release will clear doubts regarding the mystery surrounding this movie. Is it a werewolf movie for sure? We will only know then.
The movie may release in April or November, depending on how well the pandemic situation is handled.
