Aftermath-- My take on the movie with spoilers!
PLOT SUMMARY: Desperate for a fresh start, a couple moves into a house where a murder has taken place. Soon, the disturbances in the house begin to create a rift between the couple.
Do you know who has lived in the house before you? Do you know what must have happened to them in this house?
At the very least they had a bad experience in the house.
At the very most, someone died in the house.
Rarely, someone was murdered in the house.
AFTERMATH Movie Plot
When we meet Kevin, he's tasked with the duty to clean up a crime scene. Along with his crew he does the job but Kevin somehow gets the brilliant idea to move in with his wife into this house. He has after all,of getting a good deal on it by the sister of the murder victim.
Natalie is unaware about it all until the papers are signed and then she creates a fuss when she realizes it's a murder house. But then she is reminded that they've got the house for a less price, she reconsiders her reservations about it.
Odd things begin to happen immediately. Kevin starts receiving salacious deliveries to his home that he swears he didn't order. His wife thinks he may be frustrated because she cheated on him once. She applies for a job and gets it and who is the one who recommended her?
Her former lover of course. Natalie tells him to maintain professionalism and he says he will. Yet in one instance, flowers are delivered to the house and it is supposed to be from Natalie's ex-lover.
Kevin starts to get pissed off but the couple is further distracted by the dog who collapses. Turns out he's been poisoned. Kevin's project partner stays with the dog and Natalie suspects he might be getting back at her by having an affair of his own. He isn't.
Natalie believes she sees someone who is rail thin in the dark hallways of the house. But none of the cameras capture an intruder.
AFTERMATH Ending Explained with spoilers!
The next one to get poisoned is Kevin who is certain Natalie has become a serial killer and wants him out of the way.
He suspects she's been poisoning his lunch and refuses to eat the mush she packs in the box every day.
The couple faces more disturbances when they are accused of being racist and have their car burn down.
Eventually, Natalie decides to put up her own camera in her room. There has to be someone behind all of this? Right?
And sure enough, that camera captures the intruder in the house.
Who is he?
The man in question was the lover of the owner's brother's wife. She suspected her husband was having an affair so she wanted to go the extra mile by not only having a revenge affair but also let her lover stay in the very same house and created a secret space behind the walls.
The chump was eager to do whatever his lover asked for him; even to live as a squatter. Clearly, he was suffering from mental issues because not only was he ready to live behind the walls like a creep, the minute he thought he was going to he dumped, he went on a killing spree.
But he was also devious. He kept a good watch on Kevin and Natalie to the point he learned of their secrets affairs and whatnot and was also able to acquire drugs to give people and dogs heart attacks.
But he wasn't responsible for all the incidents. The owner's husband was playing a game of his own to harass the couple because he wanted them to sell back the house to him for an even lower price.
Does he succeed? Kind of. But he ended up being caught.
The couple move out of the house even though they kept saying throughout the movie that they couldn't afford it. Turns out they could at the end and leave. But just as they do, the door shuts.
The creep living behind the walls was killed so it couldn't be him, could it? Then who could it be?
Probably the wind.
The movie has some interesting moments but it is burdened by an overused plot of a creep living in the house without the owners knowledge.
And when Natalie's sister disappears... Natalie is content with a text message, not once bothering to call and wonder if her sister went to her house?
With everything weird going on, one would think Natalie would he concerned about all her loved ones.
Apparently not.
Scare scale: 3.5/5
