Book Excerpt-- THE LEGEND OF AMARA BOOK II: THE TETHERING
Excerpt from The Legend of Amara Book II: The Tethering
He pushed open the door slowly and found a woman sitting on the stairs that led upstairs. When the outside light hit her face, he saw it was Kiara, dressed still in her brown hoodie. Her face was pale, and her eyes bloodshot as tears streamed down her face.
“Kiara?” He opened the door wider.
She looked at him, and he thought he saw helplessness in her eyes. She was clutching her knees and hunched over. The wailing had stopped, and she stared back at him before she said in a shaky voice, “Leave me alone.”
“Are you alright?” He asked. There was a movement behind where she was sitting and he peered in the darkness.
“Just go,” she told him in a whisper.
But he was focused on the dark figure behind her that was slowly descending down the stairs and stopping behind Kiara.
He saw a darkened hand slither over Kiara’s chest, and another that came from behind that clutched her neck.
The figure began to lighten as it came forward. He could make out a hood and bony limbs. The head was close to Kiara’s and appeared to be whispering.
Kiara sniveled as she squeezed her eyes shut.
“Who is...?” Before he could finish his sentence, the figure turned abruptly and he saw a face that appeared to be rotten flesh. He saw eyes that had no eyelids and were stretched to reveal bright yellow irises. It didn’t have a nose, but two small holes in the face that kept making a raspy sound every few seconds. The mouth was thin and stretched to display hundreds of thin pointed teeth.
The smell that wafted to his nostrils was of burnt meat and coppery blood.
“She said to go!”
Veer found himself being thrust back into the corridor and the door swung shut. He was on his back, staring at the door, unable to breathe as his chest tightened.
