Horror Weekly News: Horrorscope gets a movie adaptation. Shelley Duvall comes out of retirement for a horror movie.

For those who call themselves the 90’s kid, you are in for a treat.

Remember the 90s well? Remember how good the TV shows, cartoons and the tweens and young adult novels were? ,

The Goosebumps series, Fear Street, Sweet Valley High, The Babysitters Club…so many exciting book series to follow.

Then there were writers like Christopher Pike, Diane Hoh, and Nicholas Adams who wrote for young adults as well.

And so here is some exciting news.

While Christopher Pike’s novel THE MIDNIGHT CLUB has been adapted for TV, Nicholas Adams’ novel HORRORSCOPE is going to be adapted for screen next.

HORRORSCOPE was one of my favorite novels growing up, one that I read several times mainly because it was my first horror story that was zodiac-themed.

I loved the mystery and the characters but yes, the reveal was a bit of a downer. And the joke that was made in the climax by a character, about the “Butler did it?” That was just cringe-worthy.

However, the book, until the last few pages was exciting and thrilling, and mysterious. I liked how Robyn’s character had shaped up.

Now, it was Robyn who wrote for the school paper as Jean Stephenson. She is completely into astrology yet she wrote those zodiac readings for fun. When she is paired with Jeff for a science project, he shows her an easy way to get readings done using a computer.

But then there’s a killer out there who has been killing students from Robyn’s class. He has been using Robyn’s readings to go after students and killing them based on their zodiac sign. Aries? Killed with a woolen scarf. Gemini? Killed in front of a mirror so that it looks like the twins died.

Then the killer reaches Leo and turns out Robyn is Leo. But the Killer doesn’t know Robyn is also the person behind the horoscopes that he has been using as guidelines to kill off people.

Just how did he know which student was which zodiac? Could it really be Jeff who is not into astrology but is a nerd and therefore can be suspected? He knows computers and possibly hacked into the files to find out the date of births of every student because the paper records were long destroyed.

But nope. The paper records still exist in the hands of none other than the custodian.

His name is Joe Butler and he has some mental health issues following his discharge from the army. He had believed that jean Stephenson was a prophetess who would grant him luck should he kill every person in the zodiac sign.

What Joe forgot was that he was a Leo too and Robyn uses the information to trick him.

The story ends with Robyn and her friend surviving the zodiac killer. Later on, Robyn and Jeff get together.

As good as the novel was, rumor has it that the movie script is simply inspired by it and may not follow the novel after all. All cast roles have been kept under wraps. But there is a cast member listed as The Devil. Hmmm…

The synopsis reads that after getting their horoscope readings done, a group of college kids begin dying.

The book featured students from high school and that they read and believed readings that came in the school newspaper.

The movie stars Larsen Thompson, Jacob Batalon, and Harriet Slater. The movie is written and directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg.

No release date has been given out yet.

In other news…

There’s a new werewolf movie being made that stars Edward Furlong, Dee Wallace, Chiko Mendez…and Shelley Duvall.

Shelley Duvall has done several movies over the course of her acting career but is well-known for her role in THE SHINING

Her last acting role was in 2002 in the, comedy MANNA FROM HEAVEN. After that she was thought to have retired from acting and was not heard from. But Shelley Duvall always expressed interest in returning to acting.

Twenty years later, we are all set to see her in a horror movie called THE FOREST HILLS.

Written and directed by Scott Goldberg, the movie is about a man called Rico who suffers a head trauma when he is camping in Catskill Woods. He is then haunted by nightmarish visions.

Supposedly Edward Furlong’s character Billy, convinces Rico that he can turn into a werewolf. Rumor has it that Billy turns into a werewolf himself.

Shelley Duvall plays Rico’s mother who tries to help him as he struggles to come to terms with his trauma.

No release date for the movie has been set yet.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
