Quick Movie Reviews: Grimcutty
Plot: An internet meme comes alive and becomes a threat to kids in a town.
Grimcutty is a decent horror movie about a monster being brought to life because of parents becoming hysterical about what the kids are doing online.
While many kids are on just to watch videos and post selfies of themselves doing basic things, there are trends that have taken over social media that urge children to do risky things. These trends have caused kids and teens to become seriously injured so yes, it makes sense that parents would be overly cautious.
So here's a movie about it.
One of the most shocking scenes in the movie is that there is a whole box of knives in the kitchen. And the kid knows about it.
As the hysteria of the internet meme, Grimcutty grows, some parents become so paranoid they buy a detox box wherein everyone in the house has to place their laptops and mobile phones into it.
But not knives or any other tool, of course.
Asha and her brother Kamran get caught up in their parent's strict rules while Grimcutty keeps coming alive and harming the kids.
How GRIMCUTTY Ended
Turns out it was all Melinda's fault. Her anxiety caused mass hysteria among other parents. Her son tries to stop her from summoning the Grimcutty through her panic and when she doesn’t listen, he stabs her.
Asha and Kamran decide not to stab their parents. They use sedatives instead.
Eventually their parents believe in the existence of Grimcutty to the point that the father injects himself with sedatives so that he can become less anxious.
The Grimcutty feeds on panic.
The parents also realize that their kids are smart and won't indulge in any risky challenges that will harm them.
In the end, the whole community is saved from the Grimcutty...because...because Asha made a video?
Turns out none of the parents are worried about their kids anymore.
Yes, that's how the movie ends, with Asha proclaiming that the parents have learned to trust their children and as long as they are relaxed the Grimcutty will never return.
So have the kids been giving their parents sedatives?
The movie was interesting to the point of the ending gets a little convoluted in trying to explain how the threat of Grimcutty ended.
Watch this movie anyway. It's simply average. And you will get to wonder if it is a good idea to keep a big box of knives in the cupboard that is within reach for kids.
Scare Scale: 2.5/5
