Horror Weekly News: Children of the Corn hitting theatres soon. Chhorii 2 shooting wraps up.

And here it is again, another adaptation of Stephen King’s stories. Or should I say a reboot of an adaptation?

If there is one short story that has been talked about in popular culture, it is the CHILDREN OF THE CORN

The story's basic premise is about a couple that ends up in a town where no adults exist. It doesn’t take long before the couple realizes there is something wrong with the children. They are all part of a cult that worships an entity called He Who Walks Behind the Rows (possible inspiration behind He-who-must-not-be-named aka Lord Voldemort?).

Eventually, the couple meets their demise and the children continue their killing spree to please the entity.

There have been ten adaptation of the story so far, with none of them actually receiving positive reviews from critics. Could it be that Stephen King stories are hard to adapt because the stories are written so well?

In any case, we now have an eleventh installment to the series which will forget that the 1984 movie even existed. Almost never existed, based on what the makers have revealed.

The movie released in 2020 at a festival following which it was acquired by RLJE Films and Shudder. The movie will release in theatres on March 3rd, and on streaming on 21st March.

The trailer has dropped and it shows that while the original story had a boy acting as leader of the children, in this new version, we can see the girl take hold of the reins.

Whether or not this movie will do justice to the short story, remains to be seen.

In other news…

Following the success of the movie Chhorii (2021), the sequel was announced in December 2021.

Read my review of Chhorii with ending spoilers

The sequel, so far titled Chhorii 2, has wrapped up shooting last week.

Chhorii was a remake of the Marathi film Lapachhapi and was about a pregnant woman who goes with her husband to a village and gets embroiled in mysterious occurrences  that points to a haunting.

The movie had several twists and turns and ends with the woman learning that her husband has been deceiving her from the beginning, and responsible for the deaths of previous wives who bore girl children.

In the end, we see the woman walk out of the village but we never actually see her reach the city.

Chhorii 2 is set to continue from the events of the last movie. We have to assume the woman never really made it out and lost her way.

The sequel also stars Soha Ali Khan. The images released so far point to dangerous situations. Let’s see what happens next.

So far no release date is set.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
