King Knight--My Take on the Movie with Spoilers!
PLOT SUMMARY: Thorn and Willow are the priest and priestess of a coven. When Thorn receives an invitation to his high school reunion, his buried secrets emerge.
I do enjoy comedies. I love horror movies. When combined, a horror-comedy movie makes for an entertaining evening.
Movies like The Trip, Willy's Wonderland and Freaky have been immensely enjoyable with the right dose of humor and horror scenes in them.
However, there are movies out there which claim to belong to the comedy and horror genre, and then of course, set about to deceive the viewer.
For some reason, King Knight was added to the horror genre and it goes without saying, the movie doesn't justify the horror genre.
KING KNIGHT Movie Plot
Thorn and Willow are the priest and priestess of a coven where everyone wears black because it is the safest color.
The coven includes couples Percival and Rowena, Neptune and Desmond, and Angus and Echo.
During their rituals they do wear white and flower bands on their heads. All the couples come to Thorn and Willow for relationship advice, mostly late at night.
Thorn keeps trying to avoid an email from Alexandra.
Eventually, Willow gets on his computer and sees the email. Shocked, she wonders about Thorn's past.
Thorn confesses that he was quite different in high school. In fact, gasp, he was an athlete. He played lacrosse. And there's more! He was voted as most likely to succeed.
Willow is stunned. The last thing she wanted was for her partner to be interested in sports and popular in high school. They were all supposed to be weird and unpopular, after all.
Willow does a lot of screaming while Thorn looks ashamed to have been popular in high school.
Turns out Alexandra is a schoolmate and wanted Thorn to confirm his attendance to the High School Reunion. She also wanted his help setting up the Reunion.
The coven is informed of Thorn's popularity and they lose all respect for him. They had no idea they were taking advise from a former lacrosse player. How terrible for them!
The humor here is too forced and does not land.
A vote is taken and Thorn is banished from the coven. He is told to do a walk-off and Willow advises he stay hydrated.
Thorn takes her advice immediately and drinks from Angus' bota bag. Of course, there isn't water in it and the next few minutes is spent on Thorn roaming about having a psychedelic vision and seeing Ray Wise.
Eventually he decides to face his past, attend the High School Reunion and speak to his mother.
KING KNIGHT Ending Explained with Spoilers!
Meanwhile Willow gives the rest of the coven members a stern talking to and they all decide to go after Thorn and bring him back.
After speaking to his mother and barely making amends with her, he goes to his high school where he is well remembered by his classmates.
Alexandra is in a pant suit and is humbled by Thorn's kind words and his thanks for singularly handling the Reunion preparations.
He is then invited to dance.
At first Thorn is hesitant but then the coven comes to cheer him on and he performs a fanciful, ballet-type dance. The coven cheers for him.
It so happens that Neptune and Desmond break up because one of them is straight. The one who isn't finds a match at the Reunion.
Alexandra is inducted into the coven for being able to carry off the pant suit well.
The movie ends on a happy note.
But as a viewer, you won't find yourself being amused and wonder about how pointless everything was. And just why does it come under the horror genre?
Unfortunately, the talented actors are wasted in a story that may have been amusing on paper but utterly disappointing onscreen.
Scare Scale: 1.5/5
