Ditched-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: During a prisoner transfer, Melina, a paramedic, gets into an accident. She must now try to get out of the ditch even though there's a threat looming outside.

It is said that the mistakes we make, and the ones we don't atone for, haunt us forever. It is only when we make amends, or ask for forgiveness, can we truly move ahead.

In real life, certain people often tend to go on about their lives, uncaring about the mistakes they've made and the people they've hurt. Frustratingly they are not punished for it. The victims usually have to watch the people who have destroyed their lives, go about their life, happy.

In movies though, retribution comes a bit sooner. Victims disguise themselves as someone else or the relative of a victim who comes seeking vengeance.

In the case of Ditched, the victim's relatives disguise themselves as scarecrows and devise a complicated plan to teach the sinners a lesson.

Quick review: The movie actually has a pretty solid start. It is when the first kill happens, and the ridiculous way it does, that things begin to unravel. And then of course the last scene had to happen just when you thought the story was redeeming itself. But nope.

DITCHED Movie Plot

When the movie begins, Melina awakens in an upturned ambulance, trying to collect her bearings. A patient is strapped to a gurney, the drivers are knocked out as well as another paramedic with her who was thrown out of the ambulance.

Lights are flickering and Melina keeps talking about wanting to go back to her daughter.

The patient, Franson, asks Melina to unstrap him but she seems hesitant. He tells her he was strapped in because of seizure issues but he is okay now and he's getting uncomfortable since he's in an awkward position. Melina is about to take off the straps when she notices her partner and makes an odd comment about how is it possible that he too had a seizure. She grows suspicious and doesn't untie the patient.

She wanders outside and finds the driver barely conscious but with a smashed knee. She fixes him up and he loses consciousness because of the pain. Before he does, Melina mentions she doesn't remember the accident and that she needs to go to her daughter.

She goes up ahead and meets Officer Revesz who is looking after his partner Officer Kerr who is unconscious. There is a prisoner in the backseat who wants to get out because there's a branch that got in through the window. Officer Revesz doesn't allow it because, well, he is a prisoner and nobody trusts anybody anymore.

Officer Revesz volunteers to go up the ditch to call for help. Till then Melina's partner has woken up and tries to get attention. Melina stays back to look after the injured while the officer heroically climbs up with a gun. He hands Melina one too and gives a hero's speech. Melina looks at him as if he's the best thing to happen to her.

Officer Revesz manages to climb up, go forward and encounters people in costumes. He is instantly killed and beheaded.

While Melina is gushing about her new crush with her partner, Officer Revesz's head comes tumbling down.

Officer Kerr has woken up and demands her gun back, the one Melina has.

The next few scenes comprise of people trying to hide, trying to run, but getting slaughtered anyway. Except for Melina, of course. The movie began with her so, of course, she's going to stick it out till the end.

DITCHED Ending Explained with Spoilers

Turns out all the people currently in the ditch were purposely veered off the road on purpose. Now, these are all people in authority so you wonder if perhaps it was one of those movies where a prisoner transfer is interrupted so that the prisoner can escape.

As it turns out, the group of costumed people, are actually vigilantes. They have decided to bestow punishment on those who walked away free.

Turns out all the people in uniform, and obviously, the prisoners, have sinned and didn't get the punishment they so rightfully deserved.

The vigilantes finally reveal all to Melina who tries to hide in the ambulance. The officers and prisoners were people who hurt others but went on to live a life free from punishment.

Melina tries to make a run for it in the end and is given a lift by a woman. Melina keeps going on about wanting to get home to her daughter but the woman tells her that her daughter had died.

The woman is none other than the one with whom Melina was in an accident. She had incurred a loss as well although Melina, who had caused the accident, got to walk away free.

The woman takes a gun and shoots Melina in the head at close range. The head explodes like a watermelon.

The movie ends.

So the vigilantes win, the sinners are dead. Victory for justice?

The movie did have a decent start but as more of the plot is revealed, it becomes a little uninteresting. The last scene, especially, where Melina's head blows up, looks a bit ridiculously shot especially since her shooter makes no attempt to throw Melina off the car but keeps driving with her headless corpse like she's on a joyride.
