The Suppression of Hannah Stevenson-- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: Matt and Hannah's happy vacation turns sour after an argument which leads Hannah to seek out a gypsy and drink a potion with dangerous side effects.

Do you know what one should do when they are on vacation in a foreign country? Go on tours, learn the culture, and perhaps even a little bit of the foreign language. And of course, have fun and relax.

Do you know what one shouldn't do when they are vacationing in a foreign country? Drink potions that promise to solve all problems.

Yet, that is exactly what Hannah, the protagonist of this movie, does. And of course, things take a bizarre turn after that.

The story must have started out differently considering the movie was previously titled the Exorcism of Hannah Stevenson. The poster too, shows a woman in a state of possession, standing in an empty hallway of what appears to be an asylum or a hospital.

The filmmakers either cut out the parts that led the character to enter a hospital or changed the script midway. It then became the Suppression of Hannah Stevenson, alluding to the fact that her true wishes are suppressed by her overbearing boyfriend.

THE SUPPRESSION OF HANNAH STEVENSON Movie Plot

The movie begins with a woman in a white dress entering a lake and taking a long time to do it.

We then meet a man who is in custody. He is Matt and he is being questioned by the police of what transpired in the past few days leading him to be questioned by the police.

Matt tells him the story of how he and his girlfriend Hannah had come to the country on vacation.

Hannah is meek and a dutiful girlfriend to Matt. It is only when they are in the bedroom that she has reservations.

Matt wants his girlfriend to wear something sensual so he visits a lingerie store where he sort of hides the fact that he has a girlfriend.

When he returns home he gifts it to Hannah who isn’t too pleased with what she sees. Matt expects Hannah to come all dressed up but when he sees her, he is disappointed because Hannah hasn't worn the lingerie he got for her.

Hannah is unable to tell him why she can't open up to him and what transpired in the past and he in turn doesn't even try to understand her.

Eventually, Hannah finds a local gypsy who had accosted her previously at the store and she had been saved by Traian. The gypsy is sympathetic to her distress and gives her a potion to give her what she desires, and Hannah thinks it is to help her open up to Matt and leave her inhibitions.

She takes the potion, dons the lingerie and does exactly what Matt wants. He is sated however when he wakes up later, Hannah is nowhere to be found.

She is near a lake, gone back to her primitive ways. Except her face suggests she has turned into a  zombie/vampire being.

She is found by a man who takes her in and helps her.

Traian meets Matt and helps him find Hannah. They end up at Eliska's shop and she refuses to speak to Matt unless Traian leaves. He does and Eliska tells Matt about the potion and possible side effects. Matt is shocked that Hannah could be with him only after taking a potion and not otherwise.

He goes to the forest and finds the man helping Hannah who also has deigns on her. Everyone wants to help but Matt is told to come the next day. He meets with the lingerie store owner again and she is obviously disappointed that Matt has a girlfriend. She however doesn't shun Eliska like the rest of the town does. She tells him that the man helping Hannah and Traian are brothers and they have some jealousy issues going on.

Apparently they both had fixated on a girl before too who ended up dying. Matt grows concerned, the police are informed, Eliska is trapped by Traian.

THE SUPPRESSION OF HANNAH STEVENSON Ending Explained

Traian and his brother have a stand off but his brother tells him that he's already had his way with possessed Hannah. Traian has no more use for Hannah now.

The police sort of arrive on time to save the day and Matt tells them not to judge Hannah even though she looks like an animal.

Hannah is treated for her "possession" and almost returns to normal. She and Matt continue their relationship.

The movie ends.

And everyone is as confused as ever.

Just why does one of the poster show Hannah at a hospital ward? What happens to Eliska?

The movie is quite obviously shot on a low budget and there is absolutely nothing memorable or even thrilling about what happens.

This movie is a mediocre attempt at best.
