Horror Weekly News: Belle gets a release date. Til Death Do Us Part gets a trailer.

A tale as old as time…

That’s the tagline for the latest fairytale to be re-imagined into a horror movie.

Beauty and the Beast was a tale written by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and published in 1740. The tale had several variants and seen many adaptations over the years including the Disney animated version in 1991 and its live-action remake in 2017.

Both movies were box-office hits and received praise from critics.

But as is the trend nowadays to twist the stories into a different genre, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST also sees a transformation.

In the Disney adaptation, a young woman called Belle agrees to live in an enchanted castle with a cursed Beast provided he spares her father. Over time, Belle grows to accept and even befriend the Beast when she realizes that he isn’t as horrible as he appears to be.

But of course, like in any tale, Belle’s love story sees an obstacle in the form of Gaston who is enamored with her and wants to kill the Beast.

After confessing her love for the beast, the curse is broken and the beast is transformed into a Prince. Belle marries the Prince and lives happily every after.

Now that the tale is being turned into a horror movie, the story has been twisted to include terrifying themes.

In Max Gold’s BELLE (Previously titled FANGA), a man goes in search of a magical rose only to be caught by a beast. Belle finds her father in a bad state and realizes only the magical rose can heal him.

And so she approaches the beast who asks her to become his willing prisoner. She agrees but is clearly terrified of the flesh-eating man. As time passes, she develops romantic feelings for him to the point that she discourages the men from harming the beast.

Can her love reform the beast?

BELLE stars Andrea Snædal , Ingi Hrafn Hilmarsson , Hana Vagnerová, Gudmundur Thorvaldsson, Helga Braga Jónsdóttir, and Sigurður Sigurjónsson.

The movie BELLE will be released in select theatres on July 14th and on Demand on August 22nd.

 In other news…

Weddings can be stressful and the bride and the groom can develop cold feet.

In romantic movies, when one of them backs out, the whole movie is spent discovering the issues between the couple and sorting them out.

The same cannot be said about the upcoming thriller TIL DEATH DO US PART.

When the Bride (played by Natalie Burn) backs out from a wedding, the Groom (played by Ser'Darius Blain) doesn’t take it well.

The trailer drop doesn’t explain the reason why the Bride flees her own wedding but it is insinuated that she doesn’t want to be a part of whatever the Groom and his Groomsmen are up to.

And so we see the Groomsmen track her down and break into her house. The Bride isn’t a timid one and clearly trained in several fighting styles. She takes down all the groomsmen, some of them violently.

Til Death Do Us Part is directed by Timothy Woodward Jr. And Written by Chad Law and Shane Dax Taylor.

The movie also stars Cam Gigandet, Orlando Jones and Jason Patric.

Til Death Do Us Part releases in theatres on August 4th.
