If you enjoy dark humor interlaced with horror, then you will love this week’s Horror Book Recommendation, DEMONIC, written by Jeff Strand.

Jeff Strand is a Bram Stoker Award Winner and has written several novels, screenplays, and comedy sketches. DEMONIC is his latest novel which was published in January 2023.

DEMONIC is currently on the bestsellers list for Occult Horror and Occult Fiction.

Customers who bought this book found DEMONIC to be a well-written, fast-paced narrative with outlandish elements thrown in that balances out the gory parts in the book.

Quick Review of DEMONIC (Based on sample)

When we first meet Corey, the protagonist, he’s already planning to kill Quinn’s husband, a coworker with whom he has fallen in love with.

The story moves quickly to establish how Corey, whose life was presumably normal, finds himself entertaining criminal thoughts once he learns that Quinn’s husband Vic hits her.

On top of everything, the place where they live has a serial killer, dubbed the Toledo Trasher, since the victims are always dumped by the killer.

The descriptions of the victims are vivid enough to make you want to gag.

The author doesn’t waste time in getting to the point and soon enough, our hero is at the doorstep at Quinn’s house, getting ready to kill Vic who he also believes to be the notorious serial killer.

But things obviously don’t go according to plan and when he arrives and meets with Vic, things spiral out of control, but in a fun way.

Jeff Strand is clearly a skilled author who manages to seamlessly incorporate humor in situations which would have you sit at the edge of the seat.

DEMONIC promises to be a fun read and going by the reviews, has enough thrills going on to keep you hooked to the very end.

DEMONIC Plot (Taken from Amazon.com)

From the Bram Stoker Award-winning author of PRESSURE and AUTUMN BLEEDS INTO WINTER, comes a new novel of unrelenting terror.

Corey is falling in love with his co-worker Quinn. This is a problem. Not only because Quinn is married, but because her husband is a serial killer known as the Toledo Trasher, who has been forcing her to participate in his savage crimes.

With nothing but Quinn’s best interests in mind, Corey shows up at their home with a gun in his pocket and a knife in his hand.

Unfortunately, there are some very dark forces at work, and Corey makes Quinn’s situation worse than he could have ever imagined. And now things are about to get really, really bloody...

With his trademark frenetic pacing and pitch-black humor, DEMONIC is Jeff Strand at his devilish best.

DEMONIC is available on Kindle, Paperback and Audiobook formats.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
