Horror Weekly News: Viral online story adapted for screen called DEAR DAVID. DisneyPlus drops spooky trailer for Mansion 24.

It’s Friday the 13th and it’s the perfect time to indulge in spooky stories.

And maybe watch a movie inspired by a true haunting?

Back in August 2017, popular cartoonist Adam Ellis experienced a haunting in his home. His first tweet was about how a child was trying to kill him in his own house.

He then explains the story in subsequent tweets of how he suffered from sleep paralysis and how one night he saw a boy sitting on a chair. His story further explains how he began to have nightmares and how in one of them a little girl came up to him and told him if he has seen Dear David.

Eventually, Adam moved to an apartment upstairs but his encounter with the child was far from over. First, his cats would keep watching the door, as if sensing someone was on the other side. Then one night, Adam finally saw the boy, his head dented from one side as if he was pummeled. He was on a chair in the corner of his room.

This terrifying story became viral and eventually led to a movie adaptation.

Titled DEAR DAVID, the trailer shows Adam working at Buzzfeed and defending himself from trolls despite his coworker advising him to ignore them.

Eventually, Adam comes across a comment that asks him why he’s being so mean after the artist comments “DIAF” to a troll. Adam thinks nothing of it until one night he wakes up only to find that he is unable to move. And there, in the corner of the room is a child on a chair.

A creepy child, of course. Not a cute one in a long nightgown who is looking for a lost puppy or parent and comes with holy intentions.

No, the child in the trailer has a creepy smile, the one that is sure to give anyone nightmares.

Soon enough, Adam loses his grip on reality and doesn’t know whether he is awake or asleep. He also finds the letters ‘DIAF’ left on his foggy bathroom mirror.

Will Adam be able to rid himself of the ghost?

That will be hard for him since his research on the boy yields no results and he has no choice but to update his followers on this frightening tale.

The movie stars Augustus Prew, Andrea Bang, and Justin Long.

Directed by John McPhail and written by Adam Ellis, Evan Turner, and Mike Van Waes, DEAR DAVID releases on October 13th.

In other news…

Prepare yourself for a haunted mansion mystery that comes out just in time for the spooky season.

Titled Mansion 24, the movie deals with the story of a woman called Amrutha whose father is branded a traitor. Her father has also disappeared, and all clues lead to the mansion, which Amrutha needs to learn more about.

She is told by several people not to go there as those who venture in have never returned. But Amrutha is determined to get back her father as her mother is dealing with health problems.

She goes all the way to the mansion despite being warned not to. And so we get to see the cliched horror decorations in most Indian movies and TV shows. There are crows, poor dolls are hanging from a noose, and doors locked with religious threads.

Once inside, Amrutha learns of the dangerous truth about the mansion. Will she be able to make it out alive?

The premise is certainly interesting and the trailer may have cliched scenes aplenty, but there is no doubt that the actors do a great job with the material they are given. The actors will no doubt give the much-needed boost to a haunted mansion story.

So far there is no confirmation as to how many episodes the series will contain.

The series is helmed by Ohmkar and stars Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Avika Gor, and Rajeev Kanakala.

MANSION 24 will stream on Disney Hotstar from 17th October.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
