Quick review of ROOM FOR RENT based on sample

Nya is down on her luck and strapped for cash. She is headed back to college for her final semester rather than listening to her conservative parents who would prefer she stay in rural Idaho to farm, worship, and pop out babies.

Now that her friend Jade has graduated and already starting her nursing career, Nya has to find someone new to live with and luckily finds an advertisement in a church’s bathroom for a room to rent.

She believes her roommate’s name is Sidney who is a girl with red hair and a tattoo of a cat. When she reaches the location to check out the house, she feels disappointment at the way the building turns out to be but pushes herself to accept her new fate.

But she’s in a shock when she realizes her new roommate isn’t a girl but a shabby man who gives her the worst first impression. Nya makes excuses and leaves but of course, considering she doesn’t have too many options, she will have to return to the apartment and become Sidney’s new roommate.

ROOM FOR RENT opens with a rather tension-filled prologue and then quickly gets to the point regarding how the protagonist got to where she is. Nya is relatable and and the author is able to make her think the way any one in her position would have to. How many times have we had to encourage ourself to accept the drastic changes in our life?

The novel does pull you in and make you curious about Nya’s predicament and fate.

ROOM FOR RENT Plot (Taken from Amazon)

Nya can’t remember the last time she felt safe.

The rundown rental house didn’t seem so bad at first. But now, someone is stealing her food. Rattling her bedroom doorknob. Digging through her belongings.

Each night brings more disturbing incidents. And each night, Nya is more convinced that it’s not an intruder. She suspects the culprit is hiding in plain sight: her peculiar roommate-of-necessity, Sidney.

Nya can’t afford to live anywhere else. The horrible rental is her only option. In a few months, she’ll finish her final semester of college—and get the hell out of dodge. But to her horror, the sinister mind games are just the beginning. Before long, she’s forced to face the possibility that her physical safety may be at risk. Maybe even her life.

The truth is more terrifying than Nya could have guessed. And as the situation spirals out of control, it’s suddenly clear that surviving the night may no longer be an option.

The Limehouse Golem- My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: When Elizabeth's husband is found dead, all fingers point to her. But is it really her or the work of a serial killer? If like me, you’ve read hundreds of mysteries and are enthused about Sherlock Holmes tales, THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEM is actually pretty predictable. Set in the Victorian Era, it promises to instil fear in you. Before Jack the Ripper, there was Golem- such is the tagline and you do want it to be the kind of movie that keeps you guessing until the very end as to the true identity of the killer.   Unlike the Jack the Ripper legend, Golem is easily recognizable in the very first instance the character is introduced.

Delirium (2018)— My take on the movie with spoilers!

PLOT SUMMARY: After leaving the asylum and put in house arrest, Tom begins to believe the house is either haunted or he is hallucinating.  Most times, when we think about criminals, we wonder what could possible have prompted them to fall into a life of crime.

Look Away— my take on the movie with spoilers!

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
