2023 saw the return of popular shows and some new ones, too!

1) The Fall of the House of Usher


Based on Edgar Allan Poe's works, the Fall of the House of Usher did proper justice to the acclaimed author's vision by delivering a well-made, thought-provoking, and eerie series.


The series received positive reviews from critics and the audience.


The show was about Roderick Usher and his sister Madeline Usher dealing with creepy deaths in their bloodline after the arrival of a stranger.

The show was well-written and well-acted making this another one of Mike Flanagan's hits.



2) American Horror Stories


The spin-off of American Horror Story may not have been received as well as the original but each episode having a separate story makes this a quick treat for horror fans.

The show returned for a third season in 2023 with four episodes, each with an imaginative and relevant story.

3) Yellowjackets


The critically acclaimed show returned for a second season in 2023 and was once again lauded for its superb performances and for creating an eerie and tense ambiance.

The show will return with a third season which is comes as no surprise as the season finale ended with a surprising twist.

The story was about the high school girls' soccer team being stranded in a strange place after a plane crash. How they survive forms the crux of the story. Now that they are adults, the secrets are still piling up.

Just what did the girls get involved in when they had gotten lost?

The show may borrow themes from another TV show Lost but has long since created its own identity.

The show starts with a family riding into a town only to find themselves trapped there. Worse, at night, strange creatures emerge from the forest.

The show delivers genuine frights in every episode and is very well-acted.

5) Chucky


The story of Chucky may have begun in the eighties but its popularity continues to grow even today.


Chucky is a doll possessed by a serial killer and the series shows Chucky always up to no good. It's his snarky attitude and his hilarious dialogues that keeps the audience hooked. Chucky is now in its third season and there's a good chance the popular show will see a Season 4.


6) Dhootha


The mystery will grip you from the first season itself. The show is about a journalist called Sagar whose life is thrown into turmoil when he finds newspaper clippings of chilling incidents that relate to his life.


The show is fast-paced and the story is compelling enough for you to want to get to the next episode immediately.


7) Black Mirror


The series originally "ended" in 2019 but was brought back by popular demand.

Over the years, the anthology served by several stories that touched upon social issues that were given a sci-fi and thriller twist.

Many celebrities were part of this award-winning series.

The show is already renewed for a seventh series.


8) Goosebumps


The series is based on R.L. Stine's popular book series but unlike the format of the previous adaptation, it now follows a serialized format.

It's about a group of high schoolers who unearth dark secrets from their parents' past as they investigate a teen's death.

The series received a high rating in the most watched TV series and also good reviews for having an immersive storyline.


9) What We Do In The Shadows


Have you wondered how vampires live in present times and the hurdles they face? No? It's probably because you can't begin to imagine what creatures who have lived for hundreds of years have to go through.

What We Do In The Shadows is based on the movie of the same name and is in a mockumentary style.

The show combines both comedy and horror elements as it focuses on the lives of three vampires who navigate through their troublesome lives while living in Staten Island.

This series was well-received by critics and will soon go into production for its sixth and final season next year.


10) The Last of Us


Based on the popular game franchise, the show was about a post-apocalyptic world where a zombie virus threatens the population.

Joel, is tasked with smuggling a girl called Ellie across the United States because she is immune to the virus and may help in finding a cure to save the world.

Fans of the game were thrilled to find a series which finally follows the source material and effectively accomplishes its goal of entertaining and thrilling the audience.

Of course the show was well-received by critics as well. The show will see a second season sometime in 2025.

Plot Summary: A bullied girl switches places with her reflection. She soon regrets her decision as people start dying.  What matters most? Looks or confidence? When we see someone for the first time, we do notice their looks, the way they dress. Personality and their ability to initiate and hold a conversation comes second, doesn't it? Imagine meeting someone who is good looking but is dull to the core. Now imagine someone with average looks but is someone you can have fun with or have an intellectual conversation. Which seems more attractive? Look Away takes a very bold stand where appearances are concerned. But also about self-confidence. In the end, the only argument it makes is that one cannot possess both attributes. LOOK AWAY Movie Plot  We are introduced to a timid girl, Maria whose father is a plastic surgeon. Her mother is shown to have no say of her own. She is left to watch her husband ridicule his daughter about not being careful with her looks. Maria has a friend Lily
