Horror Weekly News: Stephen King's The Long Walk finds a new home. The Witcher star cast in horror movie Baghead.

Stephen King’s THE LONG WALK now has a new home. The project was previously being developed under New Line but is now going to be backed up by Lionsgate.

The Long Walk is a novel that was published in 1979 during the time that Stephen King used to write under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. In 1985, the story was collected in the omnibus THE BACHMAN BOOKS.

The story was about a contest set in the dystopian future where teenagers have to participate in walking along a long and grueling path. There are strict rules to the game and every participant gets only three warnings before they are shot dead.

The protagonist Ray Garraty is the only one to survive but at the end of the contest, even though he is advised to stop, he finds that he cannot and continues forward towards a dark figure.

The story was initially going to receive a movie adaptation in 1988 but the project never entered production. The rights to the movie were then bought by Frank Darabont who too couldn’t take the project further and after his rights had lapsed, James Vanderbilt decided to helm the project.

Currently, Francis Lawrence is set to direct this film. Lawrence’s previous works include the notable The Hunger Games movies as well as the post-apocalyptic cult movie, I Am Legend. He is also set to direct the Bioshock movie as well as the sequel to Constantine.

So far the cast for The Long Walk has not been finalized.

In other news…

The Witcher's Freya Allan stars in upcoming horror movie Baghead.

Based on a short, Baghead tells a story of a wrinkled being who is able to manifest the dead and bring them back into the world for a short period.

However, there is a heavy price to pay for contacting the dead.

Freya Allan's character and Baghead apparently have family ties and a dark past.

As we have learned from the other horror movies where characters have performed seances and rituals to contact the dead, we can expect things to go seriously wrong when people approach Baghead to contact their loved ones.

In the recently release trailer, we see Freya Allan's character Iris, inherit a pub called the Queen's Head. Once in the basement, she hears a noise and comes across a figure with a bag on its head. A video of her dead father father informs her of the being known as Baghead who can help contact the dead.

You can say this resembles the premise of Talk to Me and yes, you will be right. Because soon enough a man meets with Iris and requests to use Baghead to talk to his wife. He was supposed to keep his interaction with the dead for two minutes but of course it goes longer and soon enough he has left a lot of spirits enter into the realm.

And these spirits are not the ones in long gowns but those who like to rip their mouths apart. Iris, with the help of her friend, tries to stop Baghead but her late father's only advice was to not let Baghead out of the basement.

Something tells me, Iris will end up doing just the opposite.

Directed by Alberto Corredor, the story is written by Christina Pamies, Bryce McGuire, and Lorcan Reilly.

The movie also stars Peter Mullan, and Jeremy Irvine.

BAGHEAD was supposed to release this year but since there is no trailer yet, the movie may release next year.
