Horror Weekly News: 28 Years Later coming soon. Trailer for Lovely, Dark and Deep shows how scary the woods can be.
You don’t have to wait 28 years for this next sequel. The third installment in the 28 days later franchise may be coming sooner than expected. At least earlier than 28 years since the last sequel in 2007.
In 2002, 28 DAYS LATER proved to be a box office success and was credited for being one of the movies, apart from the Resident Evil franchise, that revived the zombie genre.
The zombie genre had seen a steep decline in the past and the movies of the nineties and early 2000s brought back fans to this genre as well. The Resident Evil franchise and 28 days later went on to inspire more zombie films and TV shows.
Following the success of 28 days later, the sequel, 28 weeks later was released that saw the same success as the original although critics still considered 28 days later to be an instant classic film.
28 Months Later, was supposed to be the next movie in the franchise, but there were issues regarding film rights and the project kept being delayed. However, the actors from the previous two movies, Cillian Murphy (28 days later) and Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later) both expressed an interest to return to the franchise.
By January 2024, 28 Months Later had been scrapped, and instead a new trilogy of movies will be made. The next movie in the franchise will be 28 YEARS LATER which will be helmed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland.
No release date for this has been set as of yet.
The woods may be lovely, dark and deep, but maybe not so lovely in the latest horror movie.
LOVELY, DARK AND DEEP has already been released in festivals last year and has garnered positive reviews so far.
The movie currently holds an 84% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with critics praising the cinematography and the haunting, complex story line that earns the title of being one of the best supernatural thrillers of the year.
The trailer of LOVELY, DARK AND DEEP offers only tidbits of the storyline.
The intro gives statistics of the people who go missing in national parks every year. We then meet Lennnon who is a new ranger that has come to work and it is supposed to be her dream job, but clearly she is also up to something personal.
Creepy things point to something supernatural and Lennon finds herself in the woods where there are missing posters of a girl named Jenny Lennon. Is that Lennon herself or did her daughter go missing in the woods?
A girl tells her to wakeup and it appears that Lennon has found herself in a nightmare. She is plagued by visions and behind her, ghosts are happily climbing trees.
Apparently Lennon goes into a trance a couple of times because she is told to wake up several times in the trailer.
The movie is written and directed by Teresa Sutherland and stars Georgina Campbell, Nick Blood, and Wai Ching Ho.
LOVELY, DARK AND DEEP releases on February 22nd.
