Horror Weekly News: Smile 2 Trailer Drop. you may not want this Inheiritance.
The sequel to the 2022 hit film SMILE has finally released a trailer for its sequel.
Smile was based on the short horror film Laura Hasn't Slept. The actress who played Laura, also made an appearance in Smile which was perhaps the best part of the movie.
The sequel stars Naomi Scott as Skye Riley who begins to experience terrifying visions of smiley face people.
In the teaser trailer, we see Skye performing on stage. Based on her lyrics that include the words tragedy, devastation and disaster, Skye is clearly a troubled soul.
Then comes a man, called Lewis, who looks harried. He screams at something behind Skye and asks it to leave him alone.
And then he kills himself in front of her.
Skye's world turns upside down, literally. She keeps seeing people with the same creepy smiles on their faces. She practically screams at people to stop smiling at her.
We catch a glimpse of a man, who could be Joel, played by Kyle Gallner, who is running on the road when he is hit by a car.
There is blood or paint smeared across the road that looks like a smile.
At the end of a teaser, we see Skye signing a girl's tshirt who is also sporting a creepy smile.
The teaser doesn't impress much and clearly there needs to be a trailer that showcases the better aspects of the movie.
So far, the movie looks like a parody of the previous movie and doesn't evoke a sense of fear and dread that horror movie trailers generally manage to do.
You may find yourself asking if perhaps the sequel was even required. Just how far can you stretch the premise of a monster feeding on people's trauma and forcing them to smile?
The movie is written and directed by Parker Finn.
It also stars Lukas Gage, Peter Jacobson and Dylan Gelula.
Smile 2 or Smile Deluxe (the title is yet to be confirmed) releases on October 18th.
In other news...
If you are looking for yet another movie based on Edgar Allan Poe's Fall of the House of Usher, then look no further.
The latest horror movie coming out this year The Inheritance, looks heavily inspired by Poe's work.
In the trailer we see a family reunion. It's Charles Abernathy's birthday and he has gathered his four children to celebrate.
There are the usual stereotypes: A young woman obsessed with social media, a curt businesswoman, a young obnoxious guy and another who has brought his girlfriend to a family reunion.
And as we have learned before, in horror movies, family reunions usually go awry and ends with people dying (Humane and You're Next).
In the trailer, we see the four siblings arrive at the mansion. Videos are taken and the moods are high.
Soon enough, the four want to know why their father has really called them. He tells them that by midnight, he is going to die.
His dramatic response draws the reaction he has been hoping for. The four start screaming and demanding what is going on. The father assures them that he is not sick but that he has to pay the price for all the lives he has ruined in the name of business.
The siblings want to know who is coming for him and soon realize it is not someone but something.
The social influencer is the first one to go. The siblings decide to leave but the doors are locked.
The father tells them that if they help him survive, they will be $2 billion richer. But if he dies, their inheritance goes with him.
The siblings face dangerous situations and hauntings. Will they be able to survive the night?
The Inheiritance trailer may be burdened with tired themes and clichés but there is hope in the form of the last scene where a woman crawls out of a painting.
Hopefully, the filmmakers have not revealed their only scary scene.
Written by Chris LaMont and Joe Russo, the movie is directed by Alejandro Brugués.
The Inheiritance stars Peyton List, Rachel Nichols, Bob Gunton, Austin Stowell, David Walton, and Briana Middleton.
The Inheritance releases on July 12th.
