Horror Short Film Review: Hungry
Plot: Casey makes the mistake of not sharing extra food with a beggar.
They say you should always help people in need but only if you are in the position to help.
If you can't feed yourself or take care of yourself, then how can you help others?
It's Friday and ACMofficial has released another short called HUNGRY.
Let's see what happens in this one.
HUNGRY Plot Summary
Cases is heading home after picking up her food. She senses the bag is heavy and is happy to find that she has been given extra food.
A beggar approaches her while she is waiting to cross the road.
He's even holding up a board that asks for help and that he is hungry.
Casey is uncomfortable and apologizes for not having change but that doesn't discourage the beggar who takes one look at her takeout and asks for food.
Casey lies about not having any extra food and like a good citizen, waits for the lights to turn green before she crosses the road.
But the beggar is on the other side as well and giving her his creepiest smile.
Casey avoids him and heads to her home where she lays out her mac and cheese, and two orders of potatoes and peas.
She digs into her mac and cheese and we barely get to see her eat her vegetables.
Soon, she is stuffed and claims she cannot eat another bite. But she is happy she has enough leftovers.
Eager to post her dinner photos online, she takes a photo of the food she has finished but notices a stranger's hand making a grab for the food.
Perplexed, she takes more photos until she sees the beggar leaning across the table and then behind her.
Casey cannot see the beggar unless it is through the camera. She is force-fed more food (peas mostly because she didn't eat them before) until her abdomen extends and she collapses.
The beggar shoves her off the table.
The beggar then proceeds to eat her meal. But he too chooses the mac and cheese. He gives an evil smile.
The short movie ends.
HUNGRY is reminiscent of another short called Mukbang from the same channel. In that we see a woman being threatened to continue on with her eating challenge until she explodes.
HUNGRY is well shot and concisely written with a social message in the end as well. Try to help the needy if you can.
But the way this story and message is delivered, one cannot help but spot nuances of dark humor suffused throughout especially when the protagonist's abdomen begins to distend.
There is a light tone to this horror short which makes it enjoyable and less creepy.
Scare Scale: 3.5/5
