Horror Movie News: The Monkey teaser drums up fear. Don't Turn Out the Lights sees screaming characters in new trailer.
Stephen King’s Short Story THE MONKEY has not only wrapped up, but its distribution rights have also been acquired by NEON.
Remember the toys you had as a kid? You must have had that one toy that gave you the creeps but someone gifted it to you and so you couldn’t toss it out.
The Monkey will make you relive that horror.
The short story was initially published in 1980 before it was added to Stephen King’s collection in 1985 in the anthology SKELETON CREW.
The story was about two brothers finding a cymbal-banging monkey toy in the attic. Their father Hal used to have that toy and every time the monkey plays the cymbals, someone close to him had died which is why Hal had hidden it away.
The story then leads to how over the years. As Hal was growing up, every time the monkey played his cymbals, someone close to Hal died, including his babysitter.
Eventually he had thrown it into a well, thinking he had rid himself of the enchanted monkey. But now that his sons found it, Hal is worried that people close to them may end up getting hurt. He decides to chuck the monkey in the lake and asks his son to get him a bag and heavy rocks.
The son narrowly misses getting hit by a car and Hal becomes even more eager to discard the monkey. He takes a boat to the lake and puts the monkey in the bag with heavy rocks, and throws it in. Hal barely makes it out of the lake as his boat begins to disintegrate.
But he has supposedly rid himself of the monkey once and for all.
In the film adaptation, there is at least one noticeable change. For example, the monkey no longer has cymbals, but plays the drum.
In the recently released teaser, we see the monkey play the drums before cutting to a man covered in blood. There is blood on the curtains too. Just what happened in there?
THE MONKEY is of course Stephen King’s story but has been adapted for screen by Longlegs director Osgood Perkins. Perkins not only directs, but reportedly has an acting role in the movie as well.
The movie stars Theo James, Elijah Wood, and Tatiana Maslany, and is produced by James Wan.
THE MONKEY releases on February 21st, 2025.
The trailer for DON’T TURN OUT THE LIGHTS has just dropped and the first thing you’ll notice is that all the characters are practically screaming in every scene.
Which is discouraging since the premise looked decent.
In the trailer, we see a group of friends heading to a music festival in an RV. They indulge in illegal substances which could have added to what they face later on.
When they are on the road, they almost hit a truck and their vehicle stops working. Stranded in the middle of nowhere, the friends encounter supernatural events.
One of the characters calls for help only to hear her own voice on the other end. She then finds herself on the TV and while her friends believe there may be a camera hidden somewhere, the friend points out that the other friend is not visible on screen.
There are creepy crawling hands, and a lot of screaming. If only the trailer showed something apart from screaming, the movie actually looked pretty decent.
The movie was previously titled Blue Light and is written and directed by Andy Fickman.
The movie stars Bella DeLong, John Bucy, and Jasper Cole.
