Horror Movie News: Elizabeth Hurley stars in Piper. A new teaser for The Monkey arrives.

Step into the town of Hamelin and relive the tale that we heard as kids.

Remember the Pied Piper of Hamelin? The story that originated in Germany, spoke of the tale of a town overridden by rats. Sick of them being everywhere, the mayor offers a reward to anyone who can help get rid of the rats.

A piper, dressed in colorful clothes, offers to rid Hamelin of its rat problem in exchange for money. A deal is made and the Piper plays a tune on his flute to entrance the rats and make them follow him all the way to a river where they then drown.

The whole town rejoices but when the Piper goes to the mayor to ask for his reward, he is turned away. Angered by this betrayal, he uses his musical instrument to entrance all the children in the town who follow him to a cave where he keeps them hidden.

Desperate to have their children back, the parents force the mayor to pay back the Piper who eventually does.

The kids are returned and everyone lives happily ever after. In the kid's version of the story, anyway.

In another version, the Piper, enraged by the broken promise and humiliation, decides to exact revenge on the whole town who didn't back him up when the mayor went back on his promise.

He used his music to lure children up a cliff where they too fell and drowned in the river, just like the rats.

This version is stuff of nightmares but probably also the inspiration horror filmmakers are searching for.

In the latest movie trailer for Piper we see the tale come alive in terrifying ways.

Elizabeth Hurley plays Liz, a mother who moves into a new town with her daughter Amy. While Liz finds the town charming because of its parades of the Pied Piper of Hamelin, Amy thinks the school and house is akin to a prison.

Liz faces hurdles as a school teacher but her challenges only multiply when strange markings appear on her daughter. She finds herself embroiled with a legend about the Piper.

When Amy asks her why did they really come here, Liz replies that this seemed like the best option for both of them. Throughout the trailer, it seems that Liz isn't being entirely truthful with her daughter and that she has some secrets hidden that are connected to the Piper.

There are several references to the original story. We see drowned rats and children behaving like they are in a trance. One of the school girls, Cassia, gets up on the roof and is apparently entranced.

Liz soon finds out the Piper has been punishing all those kids whose parents have done something bad and gotten away with it.

As more marks on Amy show up, Liz is told that her daughter has been marked as a medium for someone else's penance.

Can Liz save her daughter in time?

The trailer successfully gives off eerie vibes and the haunting music adds to the foreboding atmosphere.

Hopefully the movie is as creepy as the trailer suggests.

The movie is directed by Anthony Waller who is also co-writer along with Duncan Kennedy.

The movie also stars Mia Jenkins, Arben Bajraktaraj, and Alma Rix.

The movie is slated for a November 18th release.

In other news, we finally have a new teaser for The Monkey!

The short story written by Stephen King, is about a toy monkey with cymbals attached to its hands.

Whenever it plays its cymbals, someone close to its owner dies.

The movie, produced by James Wan and directed by Osgood Perkins is finally ready to show what fans can expect.

In the new teaser (it's still a teaser and not a trailer), we see scenes of utter chaos...and blood.

Tatiana Maslany is seen in a funeral scene, stating that Everybody dies, and that's life.

The Monkey is described as a beast that is not from this Earth, and one who smites those who deserve it, those who didn't, and everyone in between.

So...basically everyone?

Later, we hear that whoever controls "it" controls life and death.

We see kids screaming, kids with blades, heads on fire, people possible being electrocuted.

In the very last scene, we see Theo James's character in a room that has been painted with blood. He is choking on something and when he brings it out, it's the top part of someone's finger.

That's literally just a teaser of what to expect with The Monkey!

The movie also stars Elijah Wood, Laura Mennell, and Sarah Levy.

THE MONKEY will release on 21st February 2025.
