Horror Movie News: Popeye the Slayer Man comes next year. The Little Mermaid horror movie trailer drops.

Remember all the cartoons you watched as a kid? Okay, this question is mostly directed to kids who grew up in the 90s and watched some old cartoon shows on Cartoon Network and Boomerang.

Those were the days when we waited for that time in the day when our favorite shows came on.

Today’s kids, who have the convenience of streaming devices, will never understand the magic behind “TV time”.

Remember when you only got limited TV time and had to watch whatever was on at that time unlike choose from a streaming service menu?

One of my favorites was Popeye the Sailor Man which came at an odd time and I barely used to get to watch it. It was only if my parents were out that I got to see it.

Popeye the Sailor Man must have gotten a lot of kids to finally eat spinach. I know I did take a liking to spinach because of it but I’m not sure that even then I approved of the idea of spinach in a can.

Anyway, flashforward to today’s times and like the current trend going on, Popeye is not only a sailor man, but a slayer man.

Yes, the iconic sailor is going into public domain next year which means the horror movie too will release around that time.

In the newly dropped trailer, we see a group of young men and women, going into an abandoned factory to film a documentary on it. But legend has it, that contamination was found in the spinach cans, and the factory had to be shut down.

But the legendary sailor man is thought to roam about that area.

The group heads out to the factory, and end up encountering the legend himself. Popeye is all puffed up and doesn’t need any weapons to crush skulls with his bare hands.

Popeye the Sailor Man was based on a real person called Frank “Rocky” Fiegel. He was bald and liked to smoke a pipe although there is no confirmation that the handyman and bartender liked to eat spinach.

And he was most definitely not a slayer man.

Jason Robert Stephens plays The Sailor Man, and he is joined by Sarah Nicklin, Steven McCormack, and Mabel Thomas.

The movie is written by Cuyle Carvin, John Doolan, and Jeff Miller. Directed by Robert Michael Ryan, POPEYE THE SLAYER MAN will be released sometime in January 2025.

In other news, The Little Mermaid gets the horror treatment as well. Mermaids were often thought of as a better version of sirens who lured sailors to their deaths with their songs. And based on what you can find online, sirens were not as graceful and kind as mermaids.

In the horror version of The Little Mermaid, Ariel is now Aurora Bey, and Eric is no prince. He is Dr. Eric Prince who is an archeologist. Soon enough, he makes a fascinating discovery.

In the trailer, we see a fisherman catch a mermaid in his net. When he tries to set her free, the mermaid sits up, shows her needle teeth, and bites into the fisherman’s neck.

Next we meet Dr. Eric who finds a pagan temple during one of his digs. He also finds an incantation engraved on a slab that he is warned as being evil.

Next we see the mermaid, walking about in human form. She is looking for Prince Eric and when she finds him, she sets about seducing him. There are words like true love thrown about but all we see is the couple on each other at all times.

Prince Eric…I mean Eric Prince then remembers he saw his current girlfriend swimming about in the ocean once. And she definitely did not have legs then.

There isn’t much shown after that except for glimpses of Aurora in a costume and getting prepared to attack.

Will Dr. Eric Prince stay with his newfound true love or will he try to save humanity from her evil plans?

Lydia Helen stars as Aurora Bey while Mike Markoff stars as Dr. Eric Prince. The movie also stars Jeff Denton, Wayne Gordon, and Samuel Selman. The movie is written and directed by Leigh Scott.

THE LITTLE MERMAID will be released on December 17th.
