Horror TV Shows Update: What was Renewed and what was canceled?
Horror TV shows have been an additional source of entertainment for horror fans who haven’t had their fill of horror movies. Considering TV shows consist of at least ten episodes in each season, it is exciting to tune in each week for the next episode and continue the story.
Of course, now that we have streaming options, sometimes we get the entire season in one go to binge on.
Here are some of the Horror TV shows that were canceled or renewed lately.
1) FROM (Renewed)
The show has already amassed a huge following for its interesting premise, fleshed-out characters, and of course, horror sequences that do tend to send a chill down your spine.
FROM premiered in 2022 and stars Harold Perrineau, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Elon Bailey, David Alpay, and Scott McCord.
The show was about a family ending up being trapped in a town which faces danger whenever night falls. The danger is the creatures that come out from the surrounding forest to prey on those who don’t adhere to the curfew.
The chilling show has been much talked about and it comes as no surprise that it was renewed for a fourth season.
2) Shining Vale (Canceled)
The Courtney Cox and Greg Kinnear show was a horror comedy with an interesting plot about a writer who moves into a haunted house. As it turns out, the ghost in the house becomes a muse for the writer. But just what happened to the ghost Rosemary, played by Mira Sorvino?
The show managed to get decent ratings in the first season but at the end of the second season, the show was not only canceled but apparently removed entirely from the streaming service.
The cancellation probably came from declining viewership and the story in the second season that went haphazard and ended with a ridiculous cliffhanger.
3) Chucky (Canceled)
The show began with a lot of promise. The TV show was going to be an expansion of the Chucky story with the killer doll venturing into different towns and cities so that he could go on a murdering spree. The Chucky did use several clever devices in the beginning to seem like an enjoyable show but ended up jumping the shark when in its third season, Chucky entered the White House.
Given a fourth season, who knew where Chucky would have gone next. Space?
Nevertheless, Chucky was a fun show and it was obvious that the cast had fun making the show what it was.
4) The Midnight Club (Canceled)
Mike Flanagan may have received acclaim for his previous horror shows on Netflix, but unfortunately, The Midnight Club did not get the same treatment. The show may have gotten average reviews from critics but the audience was hardly impressed.
Viewers found the story to be bland and depressing, and frankly, not scary at all.
As a fan of Mike Flanagan’s work, I could sit through the endless monologues in Midnight Mass, but The Midnight Club was uninteresting with the characters not remarkable enough to pay attention to. It was the first Mike Flanagan show that I could not bring myself to complete watching.
5) Yellowjackets (Renewed)
Was there any doubt that this show would not receive a renewal? I think not.
The show boasts of stars like Melanie Lynskey, Ella Purnell, Juliette Lewis, Sophie Thatcher…and the list goes on.
The story was about a plane carrying the high school football team, crashing in the middle of nowhere. How the girls survive forms the crux of the story. More importantly, some of the girls do survive and grow up but their past comes to haunt them in the worst possible way, threatening to destroy their families and careers.
The show has been nominated for several awards and won a few as well.
6) Evil (Canceled)
The show has received critical acclaim with many critics calling it a smartly written show that is also effectively unsettling. Evil is one of those shows that was a hit with the horror fans who were then extremely disappointed when the show was canceled.
Turns out the reason for cancelation may be because of the high production costs and little to do with declining viewership.
The story was about three skeptical individuals, coming from different backgrounds, who were hired by the Catholic Church to investigate supernatural events.
The show starred Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi.
7) American Horror Story (Supposedly renewed)
American Horror Story was a breakthrough in television when it premiered in 2011. After that, this anthology series saw many notable stars making an appearance in later seasons, with some appearing more than once.
The show was renewed until season 13 but show creator Ryan Murphy, apparently began work on another horror series GROTESQUERIE that made fans wonder if a season 13 was even going to be made.
The show may have begun with a bang, but over the years, has seen a decline in viewership.
The creators of the show have said that they are working on a new theme for the new season and would like to see the original characters come back, but as of now, the new season has not entered production.
