Short Horror Film Review: Thanksgiving 2

It’s Thanksgiving and ACMofficial has released a new horror short based on the holiday.

Last year, we saw a household that had kept a robot called MIA (Mechanical Interactive Aid) that was tasked with cooking a turkey for Thanksgiving. When Ms. Smith heads out for work, MIA takes care of the baby Lily. Unfortunately, a malfunction caused her to exchange Lily for the turkey, and let’s just say, thankfully we were not shown what happened in graphic detail.

In Thanksgiving 2, MIA is brushing a young girl’s hair. The girl’s name is Avery and she is busy on the phone. MIA is going through an update when she suddenly reboots. The hair iron is still on Avery’s hair. The young girl quickly realizes what is going on and removes it before her hair can be damaged.

She questions MIA who comes on and introduces herself. Avery is confused because MIA already knows who she is.

She goes to complain to her mother who is in the middle of following a recipe for a pumpkin pie. She dismisses her daughter and tells her to go get ready. MIA is asked to assist with kitchen duties and she almost stabs the mother with a pair of scissors.

The mother then asks MIA to complete making the pie, then walks off. MIA is following the instructions when an ad tells her to put poison pellets in the food.

MIA doesn’t understand that she is watching an ad or that she isn’t supposed to poison anyone. Off she goes to the garage to put poison pellets in the pumpkin pie recipe.

When the guests arrive, they are enjoying their meal and compliment it. Some even go as far as to say they are full when their plates are clearly still laden with food.

It’s time for dessert and MIA brings in the pie. Everyone savors it before an alert informs them that due to a malfunction, the users need to refrain from using MIA.

Everyone immediately starts foaming in the mouth. Everyone dies while MIA keeps moving, not able to understand what is happening around or. Or she simply doesn’t care.

The short movie is clearly well-made and apt for the holiday season. However, the question is, did no one taste even a little bit of the poison in their pie?

Thanksgiving 2 is perhaps an upgrade from the first Thanksgiving short because at least no babies were harmed in the making of a Thanksgiving dinner!

Yes, a lot more people die, but at least it wasn’t as horrific as a baby being mistaken for a turkey. Bad MIA!

The actors have done a tremendous job,  especially the actress who plays MIA, Clara Carl. She does a capable job portraying a malfunctioning robot who is following her owner’s instructions yet emanates a creepy vibe that can best be described as deranged.

The actress manages to portray her character with distinctive innocence yet conducts menacing deeds that sell the entire thing.

Thanksgiving 2 is a treat for horror fans during the festive season. But will we have to wait a whole year to find out what MIA will do next?
