Horror Movies News: You don't want to get on the naughty list of Mr Scrooge. The Rule of Jenny Pen comes next year.
Happy Friday the 13th!
It’s time to get Scrooged!
That’s an acceptable word, isn’t it?
Christmas is just around the corner and it has been a tradition for many to either read or watch the Christmas Carol, a novella that was written by Charles Dickens in 1843.
But over the years, Christmas traditions have changed, and the audience apparently wants more than feel-good movies. And so, we have plenty of festive-horror movies in the mix.
Here is another one: THE NAUGHTY LIST OF MR SCROOGE.
Turns out Mr Scrooge, the protagonist of The Christmas Carol has been keeping a list too. A naughty one at that.
Written and directed by Jake Helgren, THE NAUGHTY LIST OF MR SCROOGE is about a group of friends reuniting ten years after a tragedy during the production of The Christmas Carol. They meet up at a chalet only to be killed one by one. The killer is sporting a mask of Ebenezer Scrooge.
In the trailer, we see the friends gather at the chalet and allude to a tragedy that had befallen ten years ago. When dinner is served, they lift the cloche to uncover the severed head of one of their friends. They soon find themselves the target of a man dressed up as Scrooge. There is also one instance when one of the friends remark that they are being ‘Scrooged’.
Can the friends make it out alive?
Chances are that one of them, or all of them were involved with what happened ten years ago. One of their friends died and it was probably because of their carelessness, or a prank gone wrong which is why someone is out for revenge.
It will be interesting to see why the killer waited ten years to exact revenge.
The movie stars Skye Coyne, Colin Koth, and Kim Whalen.
THE NAUGHTY LIST OF MR SCROOGE releases on December 20th.
In other news, John Lithgow and Geoffery Rush star in a new horror movie THE RULE OF JENNY PEN. The movie is quite reminiscent of a horror movie that came out in 2021: THE MANOR.
In the Manor, a 70-year-old woman called Judith is sent to a nursing home after suffering a stroke. Once there, she notices that the residents keep disappearing and the nursing home may be hiding a dark secret.
The Rule of Jenny Pen has a similar theme, although a bit more ominous. In the movie, Geoffery Rush plays Judge Stefan Mortensen who suffers a stroke and becomes partially paralyzed. He is sent to a retirement home where he encounters a resident named Dave Crealy, who at first seems gentle, but when no one is looking, uses his hand puppet to terrorize the other students.
In the trailer, we see Stefan in the retirement home where the staff also seem apathetic towards the residents. Stefan is clearly not happy about his current living conditions but also has nowhere else to go.
When he meets Dave, he gets extremely concerned because the resident has been using a hand puppet to scare residents. When Stefan complains about him, the staff does nothing to help him because they can’t believe that such a gentle man could be capable of such malice.
Stefan decides to take him head on but Dave proves to have an advantage over him and begins to harass him. At one point, we see Dave aggressively pushing Stefan out of the wheelchair, and the hand puppet with glowing eyes.
The movie has been shown in film festivals with Stephen King commenting that it is one of the best horror movies he has seen this year.
Directed by James Ashcroft, the movie currently holds a 64% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
